drew03cmc Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Ok, on a 6'11 4wt for small stream and creek trout fishing, would you recommend a DT or WF line. Think Crane, Capps, Mill, Blue Springs Creek, etc... Andy

timsfly Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Yep, DT for me also. especially for close up work. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Danoinark Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 DT here..as it should allow better loading of the rod with less line out..(I think), and the ability to roll cast just a bit easier with that short rod. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
drew03cmc Posted July 20, 2007 Author Posted July 20, 2007 Ok, will definitely keep that in mind when considering a creek rod... Andy
John Berry Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 You should also consider a Wulff triangle taper. It roll casts better than any line and can cast distance when needed. It will give you delicacy when required. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
drew03cmc Posted July 20, 2007 Author Posted July 20, 2007 I had not even considered that one. Thanks John. Andy
Gavin Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Probably a DT or Triangle taper with the tip cut back a couple feet.....I used to use the Wullf TT lines a lot, but I've replaced all my 5wt and up Triangle taper lines with the SA XXD. The SA XXD has a longer belly than the triangle taper so it roll casts better at distances longer than 40ft. Cheers.
Members D.T. Posted July 26, 2007 Members Posted July 26, 2007 drew03cmc, I have a 7' 4wt rod and I use the Wulff triangle taper. I love it, it does everything I need it to do. Long, short, roll cast etc. Dave
