Phil,

I talked to Jim the other night and he said you might have some info on these baits. Can you tell me what colors were effective and if you used 2 inch or 3 inch, and what size heads you used 1/16 1/8 or1/4 oz?Also do you think a stradic 2500 series with 125 yard capacity of 10 lb test is large enough for the rainbows off the beach in front of the camp?Im thinking I need a larger line capacity, all my reels are used mainly with 4 and 6lb test for white river rainbows.

Thanks,

Moose

Moose, don't put 10 lb. on the 2500, it is not designed for that size of line. I have, a 100 of-em, including the 2500MG. 4 to 6 is great with 8 being pushing the limits. Line of that size will just jump off the spool. 8 is ok, but you cannot get much on the reel. Go with the 4 or 5 thousand if you wish to put 10 on. This is the voice of experience, with thousands of fish caught on the Shimanos.

Just purchased 4 of the Orvis T3 flight travel, spinning combo's with the 5000 on MH 7' 3 piece, for the 10 to 12 lb. stuff, and 4 of the TFO UL and ML, 3 piece flight, spinning combo's, to use with the 2500MG with 4 to 6 lb. test.

Using 10 lb. on the 2500 is like using 8 wt. line on a 4 wt. rod. I'll be at Naknek on the 5th. of Sept. Good Luck.

Hey There Bill,

Thanks for the response on the reels.Ive got a multitude of 1000s and 2000s I use for trout and panfish, but I always use 2,4,and 6ib test.I may need to purchase a 4000 but Ill probably be flyfishing most of the time anyway.

It is certainly a small world, one of your clients stayed with us this week and had wonderful things to say about your lodge.Dusty and Sherri Rhoades stayed for a few days and were telling about a guide that works for or with you.I think his name is Bubba.I checked out your website and your place looks wonderful.I dont get up there too much, but when I do Ill make it a point to come see your lodge.

Again thanks for the info, and Ill post a report and pictures on my return from Alaska.Wish me luck.Look out 30 inch rainbows and Cohos, here I come!!!

Tight LInes,

Moose

Moose, Phil and I have both looked at your place and it looks fabulas. We might try and get the girls away for a couple of days in late fall or early winter to come down and see ya.

Buster usually takes Dusty and Sherri. Dusty and I do go out and fling a few however.

They are not only clients, but really good friends and we love to see them.

Can't wait for your post from the River in Alaska

Sincerely BB
