Samkam1 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Got into the fish good on the 4th.....close to the dam and honey creek area in about 50ft of water. The fish still suspended at 25-40 ft. Caught over 12 fish in the 7-14lb range all on live bait and this one is dad's biggest striper. Will make a nice wall mount! 31 pounds 42 inches. Sam
brownieman Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 that's a dandy...man! sounds like a good trip...bout the only way it would make this heat worth fishin. Have never fished Beaver, some friends have though...seems as if they either get into em good or nuthin. If you don't mind me askin...you using shad or what?...and is it legal to troll umbrella rigs in beaver? The fish you mentioned catching...strippers, hybrids, both...makes me want to take a drive, wish my boat had ac, lol. have to ask, how big is that hybrid on your avitar...that's a dandy too. thanks bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Samkam1 Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 Yeah the only way we are surviving the heat is by fishing 4am until like 9am then going home. Man it's been hot!!! Dad broke down and got a blue water bait tank and we use shad, 6-8 inch golden shiners or "brood" minnows, crawdads, and 2-5 inch perch. The shiners actually are much easier to keep alive and frisky than the darn shad...and the fish love them. The tank was an excellent investment....and we love to use the live bait. Umbrella rigs are leagal, as well as gill-nets for threadfin shad. That hybrid came out of Truman a couple years back, he went 14lbs. Sam
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 WOW! Great fish I bet that was a blast getting in. Makes the heat seem not so hot! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM

Fishmeister Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Great fish Samkam1, a friend has been trying to get me down there for a couple weeks to try our luck, he said he has been doing well also, seeing those pics makes me wish I had taking him up on the offer!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 7, 2007 Root Admin Posted August 7, 2007 That might be a calendar fish!
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 That might be a calendar fish! It's got my vote! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Tightline Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Thats a good ole bigin there, bet that was like reeling in a Trident sub being as deep as they were. The strength and brute force of those fish is unmatched. Can't wait till I can get after them again. They say if you ever catch just one of them you'll get that sickness =(Beaver Fever). Great fish, that will make a beautiful mount.
The Caddis Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 That is a whopper of a fish. I caught striper out of Texoma in '06 that was 18ibs but he was a baby compared to that monster. Nice job!
