Took a gentleman from St. Peters, Art, out for a guided trip in the blue ribbon area today and the fishing was on fire. Stoneflies with crawdad, bloody Mary, and red copper john droppers were all solid producers fished deep. A lot of fish in the 12-14 inch range were caught and released and 3 fish in the 17-18 inch range that were caught and released as well. As for numbers of fish caught, I have no idea, but it was lots. If you are planning a trip to the river, the heat requires you to bring lots of water, but the fishing is worth it. The White ribbon area is fishing very well right now too. I have plenty of openings for guide trips right now on week days.

A man would be a fool not to fish the cool waters of the 11 pt in weather like this. The springs keep the temp of the water low enough and the trout feed good this time of year unlike other streams in MO. You will probably run into a few trout feeding on some kind of a hatch this time of year. Alot of other trout streams are too warm for the fish to get turned on to feeding in this kind of weather except around major springs. I know Lane Springs and the Little Piney are pretty well turned off in this type of heat. Take a stream thermometer and check temps. Anything around 60 or 70 is usually shutting off time. Early mornings or late afternoons is the best. Fish shut in areas where canopy or bluffs shade the water most of the time.

Early morning is definitely key, we met at 5:30 am to get on the river. By mid-day the fishing was slowing.
