Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 26, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted January 26, 2006 Got over to K Dock for the first time this year. Yes the water is down but not as bad as I thought it'd be. The ramp there is in good shape- just have to back down a bit to launch. It's good to have 2 people. The channel out to the main lake is clear and easy to navigate. It's about 5 feet from the lowest I've ever seen from several years back. Needs to go down about 3 more feet to be able to drive out on the road to the ramp on the main channel. We boated out to the channel and fished the bank down/right where the ramp is towards the dock. I hung a big blue gill and Tom did too- he landed his a didn't. it was the only bites he got there. We headed to Snap and found the stumps out of the water on the downstream bank where I've done well on crappie. Its the old river channel and drops off good but no bites there. Headed back down to Trigger. There's a new dock on the right just as you go in- lots and lots of brush on the point and around the dock- going to be a killer place later but no bites. Fished the opposite bank up to Wood's dock - nothing. Back to the first bank where Tom landed a big 15 inch crappie. he was in fairly shallow water off the mud flat. We used swimming minnows on 1/8th oz heads- he caught his fish on chartruese and motor oil. I used smoke and motor oil. Looking back at the ramp. Looking out from the ramp to the mouth of the channel. From the ramp. Tom's crappie Mouth of snap and the stump lining the main channel.
Fishin' Freak
[] Phil, Were you just fishing for crappie or did you throw any rogues for walleye? Any bass caught? I am wanting to head to either K-Dock or Beaver creek Sat. for some walleye and bass action. Just wondering if you targeted either of those. Thanks!! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 26, 2006 Author Root Admin Share Posted January 26, 2006 Didn't have time to do much. Just hit some crappie spots I know. Didn't throw anything else but swimming minnows- lite action spin rods and 4 lb line. Only caught the two fish. No other bites except one for me. ryan
hey put in today at beaver creek marina for the first time and fished up towards barkers hole. Started out throwing a suspending jerk bait caught a few nice bass (largemouth). Trolled a rock walker with a floating jig head and shiner caught 3 walleye all less than 18 inches. Talked to some people fishing the bank at barkers hole said they had been there for agout 5 hours and not a bite. kept getting hung up trolling so I started throwing the jerk bait again, got some cloud cover and wind and the bite was on, ended up catching about a dozen more largemouth with the biggest going about 5 and a half lbs. Well wish I would have caught some keeper walleye for dinner but oh well. I threw back all the bass I only keep kentuckies but they were fun. Ryan Were you mainly fishing points, bluff banks, or chunk rock, or all three. What depth were the bass holding? I will be heading out sometime this weekend if it doesn't rain me out both Sat. and Sun. We need the rain so it is good it is coming but I also want to fish. Did you catch all your bass on jerk baits. I was wondering if there was a jig bite going at all.

I was fishing chunk rock and bluff banks I was graphing the fish in about 6ft of water suspended over about 13-15, I don't think the fish would have bit a jig unless you were swimming it, they were just suspended but who knows what could change. Another good bait to throw which I didn't try would be a spinner bait with big willow blades 5-7 in size, I think those bigger blades would slow the bait down and match the shad size might give it a thought. Well I will be working all weekend so keep me posted on your trip Hey Ryan do you go to SM...MSU? Might have to hit the water some time. Yeah I do go to MSU that sound good

Well I will be working all weekend so keep me posted on your trip Yeah I do go to MSU that sound good I put in at Beaver Creek Friday afternoon at 2:30 and fished till 5 and caught 4 small largemouths on a rogue. I was hoping to snag a walleye but that didn't happen. I graphed fish in all different locations--some suspended some hugging the bottom. I did try throwing a 1/4 hair jig but that produced nothing. I also threw a few swimming minnows with no results. I am going to try and get out Sunday for a while and fish. If I go by myself I will put in at Beaver because it is easier with one man, K-Dock is a bit tougher. Anyone else get out on Sat. in the rain???
