The Sucker grabbin' capital of the world would have to be the Hartville/Mansfield area. Not in terms of places to grab but in terms of sheer numbers of people who grab. Yeah nixa has sucker days but i would bet that there is an amount of fish way over what they have for sucker days that goes to that area. I would bet that at least 70% of the grabbers you run into on the bull shoals and norfork tributaries are from that area. I was talking to the guy at fin and feather the other day and he was sayign that 90 percent of their business in grabbing supplies goes to that area.

The Hartville/Mansfield "sucker grabbing capital" is just a decoy. The number of grabbers from Nixa might be closer than you think. Nixa residents don't have to drive into town to buy their grabbing supplies. Nixa Hardware sells grabbing weights, bottle openers, and large trebles. Many people pour their own weights. Nixa grabbers often end up in Lead Hill area, Flat Creek etc...Their probably aren't too many guys over 30 years old, lived in Nixa 1/2 their life, and never been grabbing/gigging at least once. Tell Hartville/Mansfield to BRING IT ON!!!! just kidding---no I'm not---never-you-mind.

I've grabbed once- along time ago in Roark Creek. Didn't do well- caught alot of rocks. Takes all kinds of people to enjoy all types of fish we've been blessed with... you know! I like'm all.

I didn't konw that it would take this long for someone to say something, I figured this post was just dead from the start. I would a lot rather have a mess of walleye, crappie, goggleye, or other fish than suckers, but they do provide for fish fries well, and they are pretty good unless cooked wrong.

Every hunting season is closing down and its kind of looking like winter here lately, there isnt a whole lot to do, besides sit on a bank with a couple poles with slicks on them and not catch anything. I guess talking about grabbing makes you think of warm spring days of sucker grabbing in the morning, and white bass fishing in the evening, and a little turkey gobbling thrown in while those other two are going on. Man im ready.

Posted February 14, 2006 Members Posted February 14, 2006 hey bryantsmallie, you should come down here and buy your arkansas liscence. the grabbing season is open till the end of Feb. My dad and a couple of his buddies grabbed upwards of 50 last week out the Kings river. if you want go, send me an email, I can probably put us on some fish. the season closes for the month of march, but reopens in april, I was thinking maybe you and me, could do a blast, cast, and grab combo. Ark turkey opens on april 8, a few weeks before MO. we could hunt turkeys, fish the pond, and then hit yokum, the true "sucker grabbing capital of the world"at least it was last year. I know that by the first of april you will all fired up about the turkeys, this could give you a chance to start a little sooner. let me know if you want to come down.
Members Packman Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 My parents grew up in Mansfield, and Seymore. To this day my Grandma, Uncle, and cousins still live there. I am going to ask them of the grabbing popularity..........never heard them mention it before, or even fishing for that matter. Porter is their last name.
