Heading to River September 8th

My family and I are headed down to the river on September 8th. I usually bass fish, but I was wonderin if the trout is still open then? I have a fly rod all rigged up that was given to me for Fathers Day. I will be a threat to anyone standing near, but not much of a threat to fish? Any advice on having some fun?
