Chief Grey Bear Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Hi Terry, I don't think there's any relation around Ft. Smith. We're kind of the runts of the Stouffer litter...not related to the frozen foodies, the hoteliers, or candy makers...we moved to Ridgedale in '79. Most of my kin lives in Iowa. If I'm hitting my mark, I believe he is refering to Marty as in the Wild America show that used to be seen on PBS. Al Agnew Posted August 31, 2007 Author Posted August 31, 2007 Al, do you typically fly or spin? Actually, about 80-90% of my stream smallmouth fishing is done with light baitcasting tackle. By light, I mean short, medium-light or light action rods (difficult to find these days--everything is medium or heavier) small, lightweight reels, and 8 pound test mono. The rest is done with light (not ultralight--don't believe in using it because I don't think it's good for the fish) spinning tackle and 2 pound diameter/10 pound test Power Pro braided line. I occasionally flyfish for smallies, but mostly reserve my flyfishing for salmonids.
Members tkite Posted September 5, 2007 Members Posted September 5, 2007 Man I hate to hear the river is in such bad shape. I grew up fishing in Leadwood and as I got in high school and started dating my wife I gained access to the bluff at Terre Du Lac. I remember in the middle 80's it was nothin for us as 13 and 14 year olds to go catch 30-40 bass in a day . I live in Kansas City now but last time I was home I went down to low water bridge at Leadwood and did a little wading . I could'nt believe how shallow the pool was there now. It was maybe 2 foot deep and I remember when that water was over my head. I don't remember ever catching any spots in the river and I hate to hear they got in there. Man we had a bunch of places that we almost were gauranteed to catch a largemouth. Any place where the water swirled back upstream seemed to hold a largemouth and I caught many over 4 pounds there . Is this Al Agnew that is a wildlife artist? I could have swore my wife worked at Wetterau in Desloge with a guy whose brother was an Outdoor Artist named Al Agnew. WEll hopefully they can get it cleaned up. Have tons of great memories from that place.
