Can anybody tell me the best place to stay in the area? I'm thinking of planning a trip over a couple of days and would like to hit Capps and maybe Hickory in Neosho. Anybody ever do that? From the MDC map, it looks reasonable to try and fish Capps, Hickory and Crane Creek over a long weekend? Also, I understand parking is an issue when fishing Capps. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Bob,

The closest place to stay would be in Monett. I haven't fished Capps Creek in quite some time, but when I do go over there I usually stop at Hickory Creek on the way back. As for parking at Capps, I usually go down to the MDC walk-in access downstream from Jolly Mill. I don't think it gets fished as heavily as the area just below the mill dam and usually fishes pretty well.

Thanks Steve! That sounds like a good plan. I was thinking something along the same lines as I'll probably be heading in and out of there from 71 Hwy. That's why I was thinking of hitting them both. Do you have a recommendation on hotel/motel/campgrounds? Thanks again.

The water is very low right now at both places. Hickory is but a trickle and Capps is almost the same. Monett is closet to Capps and I'm not sure if they have stocked yet, as of two weeks ago they hadn't. There is a Motel 8 in Monett which is about 6 miles from Capps I think. If you stay in Neosho, it's about 15-20 miles to Capps and there is plenty of lodging here too.

Give me a shout when you decide to make it this way and maybe I can hook-up with you. B)
