Rolan Duffield Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Many thanks to Phil for posting this "Caddis" fly swap. I know he has been very buisy this summer and we owe him a big thanks for all he does for us fly tiers and fisherpersons. I really enjoy the fly swaps and again say that I will be glad to photograph the fly swaps for posting provided Phil approves and someone sends me the flies. Rolan
Terry Beeson Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Good lookin' bunch of flies there guys... Hey Steve... been talkin' to Hans there? I wish I had watched him tie that fly at Sowbug... Not as easy to tie as it looks... That is a sweet lookin' fly you tied there... Have you fished it yet? I've tied a few of them, but haven't fished it yet... Steve Smith Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Terry; they are not hard to tie at all. One of our buddies here on the forum may know the link to Han's CDC and elk pattern video. Once you see him tie it, the hard part will be finding the long stemmed CDC feathers. I finally found some at Tim's Fly Shop. The CDC feather is tied by the tip, then wrapped forward dressing the long strands of CDC back. The hard part for me is the Elk wing. I tend to use too much and have a hard time getting it positioned just right. As far as fishing it, it does well at Roaring River when fresh. After a few hits, the CDC becomes really slimed up and hard to float high. Gink just makes it worse and you loose the action of the CDC. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Terry Beeson Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Steve, Yeah, I had that video link myself and Hans makes it look so easy to tie. My problem is also the elk hair, but it seems that the CDC wants to move as well as the elk hair when I tie it... And you're right... less is more when it comes to the elk hair. The first one I tied, I swear I had enough elk hair for about 4... But then again, Hans is just a pretty doggone good tier...
