Rich,

This has got to be one of the humorist topics that I have read on the forum. No names mentioned in the original post, and people just start going off on each other about this and that. I could of swore I just heard Roy D Mercer say that he is going to open up a BIG can of Whoop Butt, BY God, and just how big a boy are you?

Leonard,

I still remember the day I met you and what you told me. It goes something like this, "if I ever wanted to learn something about fishing Taneycomo at night to go with you sometime." You can pass that invitation on to someone else, with what I have read, heard and seen, I have learned enough, Thanks. So with that being said, I know what you know. Disgusting, how did you let this happen to me without taking you up on that offer, but then again this could be beneficial to me.

Okay, now that some seem to want secret information. Here is the special ingredient/material that I use for my San Juan worms at Taneycomo, that just blows fish out of the water. Primacord, approxiamately two inches is all it takes. This material is available only at explosively select fly shops.

The real secret to fishing Taneycomo is to present the fly, you have chosen, to the fish in such a manner to make it believe it is food, and sooner or later you will catch fish.

Hey Jim...

I never remember say that to anyone...

what I did say was probably...

"The next time you fish taney at night give me a shout.. I'd be happy to show you around and do alittle fishing with you"...

One thing I dont do is "PUSH" the night fishing during the day... if someone inquires about fishing at night I talk to them and offer them a card...

I know of 2 Jim Murphy's... one I meet in the parking lot coming off the water.. The other I meet at the State Park last spring (early summer)...

Im guessing your the one I met in the parking lot...

either way.. it WAS NOT a ploy to get business from you just an offer to fish with you..

Dave, Primacord only comes in one color, a greyish white.

Tippet7, No beadhead, there is enough weight to the primacord to sink and drift naturally on its own.

Well, Leonard, I guess that we can keep this our little secret. Yes, what I quoted you saying is pretty much word for word, nothing made up or misquoted. You may have chosen to forget who I am after our first meeting, when you found out about my small successes in flyfishing, as well as fly tying, with hopes that I may share info with you, like I have with so many others. Maybe it is for the best that you do not know who I am. Though in due time, I am sure we will cross paths, maybe then you will remember me and the day we met. But, then again I am sure someone will tell you who I am and then what does that matter? You already made your first impression.

I still remember the first time I posted a fishing report on this board probably close to 2 years ago. I gave a glowing report about what a wonderful day I had including an approx # of fish caught. Phil replied to my report something like: "nice report but where were you fishing and what fly were you using?".

I remember thinking to myself "duh - why would anyone even want to read my report if I leave out vital info like that?" And I did add that info.

I still feel that way. I don't even finish reading a report or thread on this or any other board if it mentions a "secret fly". What's the point?

Darn it!! I sorta liked the idea of a "secret" fly. Sounds kinda double-o-seven!

Seriously, I think Leonard would share his fly patterns with most all of us...shoot, he's already started to do just that. I've tried patterns that were meant for out west that catch fish on Taney. Sorta fun to experiment.

I remember years ago I was fishing upper Taney early in my fly fishing "career". I had a couple of out of town friends with me and 1 of those guys was over 70. We were catching a few, but, we weren't exactly tearing them up either. We struck a conversation with a guide...I wish I knew his name...who was doing quite well with a client. He offered some good advice on depth, etc., and then gave us a handful of flies...no cost. We all immediately started catching more fish....and more importantly...having more fun.

I won't forget that day, as will neither of my 2 friends. :D

The last thing I'll say on this is not only have I been told what to use but have been given the hot fly of the day to use no charge. Early this month Iwas able to return this good deed by giving a gentleman from Minnesota a fly I was catching them on. It was his first trip to Taney, and he absolutly loved it.He said he would be back again and hoped he could help someone to.This is what the OAF is about. Thank you all for helping me help this guy.

Agreed. Its a great thing to help out another fisherman on the stream.

To me, though, there is a difference between helping a fellow fisherman who is on stream with you, being respectful, courteous, etc. and posting detailed instructions on a message board. From what I can tell but having never met Leonard, it seems that he would be more than happy to help a fellow that is on the stream with him who could use a few helpful tips. I can recall numerous times Leonard offering to help on the message boards and recall many who haved thanked Leonard for his help.

That said, Leonard probably does stoke the fire a little by posting his reports and providing less than full disclosure about his methods although most of the time when asked Leonard seems willing to provide more details, recipes, etc. He has done that for me in the past in response to a question I asked about exactly how to tie something that he mentioned in his post.

Lets try to give a fellow angler a little respect, I think he has earned it, and if you are interested in specifically what he is doing ask first before assuming he won't share. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I think we are all big kids and can probably all get along in the same sandbox.

I quaruntee my wife sharron jean has had that pms before and it aint no dang secret. The only advice i can give is when them women like you get that pms dont go brocasting it all around. Maybe ill have to open up a can on you and put a pop nott on your head big enough for a crane to perch on.
