Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 28, 2007 Root Admin Posted August 28, 2007 Not to give any secrets away... but I was thinking about trying something with a jig. After seeing Leonard's fly(s), take a jig hook/lead head, cut the hook at the start of the bend (leave it straight off the head), tie in another hook like a stinger- same size as the jig hook using mono, then tie marabou and a collar like normal but with longer marabou on both- the shank of the first hook and on to the second hook. The second hook would have to be a straight, wooly hook, or not(?). Basically you'd have an articulated jig. I know we don't have leaches but these types of flies/lures are getting alot of attention and success.
loo10 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 This sounds like a pretty cool idea. Phil, you ARE smarter than the average bear. Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach
timsfly Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 That works pretty good, we did that a long time ago, used a 1/64th ounce head, cut the hook at the bend, tied a small fas snap to the line, and then tied the line in at the hook, you would tie the line all the way up nearly to the head, and then pull the line back over itself, locking it in, and then added epoxy or super glue, we would leave the line and fas snap about 1" behind the the junction, and then we would put a woolybugger or a wooly worm or a streamer on the fas snap, we also did it with out removing the jig hook, this gave you two hooks but it fouled up some. I still tie a #20 or #18 treble hook in the tail of some of my woolybuggers, for when they are just nipping at the end of the tail. It worked great sometimes Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
