Hey Yall! I'm new to the site and the state (from Iowa) but I also now live in Bella Vista. I'd be willing to trade my boat use and gas for some Bella Vista lakes knowledge. As you can see, I've been practicing on how/when to use the word Yall. Or is it Ya'll??? lol

I remember seeing some of these fish you were describing i thought in this forum, but i looked for them for a bit yesterday and couldnt find them hmmm...The others were calling them crappie-gills lol...Those had the body almost exactly of a crappie and then just had strange coloring similar to a bluegill, if i remember correctly, but no one seemed to really know...I just know I bet they are tasty ;)

while fishing yesterday at the local city park pond....carondelet park.......the small lake if anyone is familiar.....but neway right about about 730 i could see some fishing raising and in small schools of 5 of so.....i casted a tinny crank at em and first caught a small crappie....then i managed to catch 4 or 5 of these crappie/bluegills.....these fish look exactly like a crappie but had the colors of a bluegill but also had the black dots on it like a normal crappie.....never have caught anything like em..anyone know what i am talking about...ill try to get a pic of one soon..

I would like to see a pic of the fish that your talking about. Sounds like a flier. If it looks like a crappie and is green like a sunfish and is not a bluegill. That would be my guess. Look at a pic of them at this site. Click on the 2 pics posted. http://www.landbigfish.com/fish/fish.cfm?ID=150

Ok, you didn't say orange belly earlier. Longear sunfish would be my guess. They are quite common and have the orange belly. See here; http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx...h&mkt=en-us Also, a pumpkinseed has an orange bellie but not as common as the longear. Like I said, I would love to see a pic.

Sounds like a longear to me. Another possibility a redear. Pic would be helpful.

I would rather be fishin'.

This little report is way out of the Ozarks, but it's about bluegill and I need to tell someone so I'm putting it here. I stopped by a little pond in Maryville, Illinois a few days ago and pulled out my fly rod (I carry 2 spinning rods and a fly rod and tackle with me at all times) and thought I'd give it a shot, even though I knew they weren't on beds yet. They turned out to be about 6 feet down in a 7 foot pond, so I put a bead on a black spider that I tie and a pork rind and went to town. I started catching one a bluegill about every third cast and they were NICE. There were to old guys sittin' on buckets casting worms under bobbers and they were gettin' pretty frustrated watchin' me catch all these fish, so I gave them to the guys. I ended up giving them like 40 bluegill, of which they kept the ones that were 8 inches or more. There were several that I think were 10 or 11. All in all, it was a BLAST! I can't wait until they start spawning here!

There are SEVERAL fish that you could have caught. I was at Jefferson Lake in Forest Park the other day and saw some yellow bass, so it could be them. However, if it had the larger mouth like a crappie, it could be a green sunfish or a warmouth (if the colors of a bluegill). If it had colors like a crappie, it might have been a goggle eye (rock bass, shadow bass, ozark bass). I can't seem to attach pictures right now, but here are some links to pictures. Just click the site.

The Bella Vista Redear/bluegill bite is on! Caught some this Saturday on Loch Lomond bouncing a redworm off the bottom in the coves. Got a few really nice redears in the 10-11 inch range.
