Members Brian99 Posted August 31, 2007 Members Posted August 31, 2007 Hello everyone! I have to ask a question about fishing Taneycomo. A friend and I went down there for 3 days last weekend and only caught 23 total fish - including a grand total of 1 on the last day. They were all rainbows and the largest was 15 1/2". We're open-faced spinning fishermen and have fished Taney, the White, Roaring River, Bennett, etc. several times over the years and always caught about 20 fish each per day. Here's a synopsis of our equipment and techniques: Ultralight spinning rod & reel 4 lb P-line & 4 lb Stren 1/32 oz jigs in olive, brown, sculpin, white, pink, yellow, etc. 1/24 oz brown rooster tails small crankbaits super dupers little cleos powerbait and gulp doughbait & worms below Fall Creek - both on bottom & under a float We caught all of our fish on either powerbait on the bottom or the olive jigs. There always seemed to be a fair amount of water running and we tried everything we could think of, except buying a flyrod and giving that a try. Can a spin fishermen still count on catching a lot of fish, or do we need to switch over to fishing with a fly rod? We certainly saw quite a few people flyfishing. Thanks for the input. Brian

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 31, 2007 Root Admin Posted August 31, 2007 Talked to Buster- he's been doing the best from Cooper down to the Island using gulp eggs- pink- and a pink 1/2 micro under a float 5 feet deep using 2 lb line. You may have been using too small jigs. 1/32 oz wouldn't get down even under a float without a split shot. 1/8 or 3/32 would have been better. Have to get on the bottom if the water is running- it's a must or you won't catch fish. Fresh stockers will hit spoons and spinners NOT on the bottom but most of those are from our place down past Branson. But I very seldom recommend them unless I know they've just stocked and then I say try them but don't use them very long IF they aren't chasing and taking. Buster also said he tried night crawlers this am and did extremely well but it was at the end of his trip. He fished today from Cooper down to the bluff.
