waterpossum Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Growing up in NW Arkansas in the early 60s when GF was impounded I always heard of giant walleye in this lake. Were they original river fish incorporated into the population. Is the lake still productive?
Members champ203 Posted May 13 Members Posted May 13 I still don't get on Greers with any regularity since moving away myself. However, I have family down there that fish it several times a month. All those brush piles I spoke of a couple years ago are paying off for crappie and bass. The baitfish recruitment has had to help all species. The high water years have helped a bunch too. As far as the walleye go, I am unsure of the original fish and whether they were river fish or stocked. What I do know is there are a bunch in the lake. In fact, my brother had a limit Saturday night, swimbaits and jerkbaits right at dark. He can pretty well catch a limit any given day/night, whether cranks, swimbaits, jerkbaits or bottom bouncing. There is some natural reproduction, but they are supplemented with stocking as well. If memory serves me, it produced a world record walleye back in the early 80's that still stands as the Arkansas record....... from what I understand the late 70's early 80's it was a big walleye factory! waterpossum 1
