Members BransonREALTOR Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 I need some easy to tie grasshopper pattern suggestions, please. I'm going to the White River in Arkansas later this month and want to try the grasshopper fishing John Berry is talking about. But I only began fly fishing in June. And I cannot tie those hairy grasshoppers like Dave's Hopper yet. I need something that works well, but is very simple. Thank you.
Okieflyfisher53 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Here's an easy one that works. Try it in tan also. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/f...072505fotw.html Steve
Members BransonREALTOR Posted September 3, 2007 Author Members Posted September 3, 2007 Thank you! I think I could do that one. What colors would everyone recommend for catching trout on in Arkansas in September? This will be a great excuse for a trip to Hobby Lobby!
Zach Bearden Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 That fly looks great! looks really simple and really effective with them rubber legs. My proposal is to go with a madame X in black (cricket) and in Tan or green (grasshoppers) dont forget to put the foam in for the wing!!! "Its clearly Bree time baby!" troutchaser Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Uh-oh. Looks like somebody just found a new addiction. Branson Realtor...Wilma, is that you? Paul Rone
Members BransonREALTOR Posted September 4, 2007 Author Members Posted September 4, 2007 Yes, this is Wilma. But Ken wants to tie these flies and he said that they have to be easy. He said something about hair not being easy for him. I thought I would ask here. He told me this morning that he has some grasshopper flies coming from a friend in Colorado, but he was afraid they would all be yellow or tan. He said they probably needed to be olive or green. But you guys are saying they should be tan?
jdmidwest Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Yellow and black work well too! It is a simple pattern to tye and the foam is available in most towns that have a Wally World or a Craft store. troutchaser Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Tan works really well, but I've had good luck with light olive and yellow, too. Paul Rone
