Micheal Kyle Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I will have to say after the week I had last week I did some much deserved fishing with my friends. We started Friday night and fished every night, yes I finally got to go four 4 nights in a row. I even was able to get my wife down on the water Sunday night and my dad went with me on Monday night. I fished every stretch of water known to man down at Taney fished Friday all the way down at Fall Creek up to the cable what a night. The fishing was actually kind of slow down below but once we all got up past the rebar the fishing really picked up. With moon high and bright the selection of colors started out with Olive then went to white not hardly moving it at all. I was actually fishing both of the colors at the same time Olive on top white on the bottom and was catching fish on both for a while then the bite went mostly to the white. After making a plea barging with my wife some thing about if you let me go tonight I will not fish Taney until we get back from Alaska, she agreed as you will see that did not last long. Got down there about 7 and stood around in the parking lot until about 9 just talking to everybody that was coming through. We finally got down to the water down by Koa it stared off with a bang. Then it just died no fish I started casting everything to then known to mankind in the fly fishing world. We all headed up top again BAM there they were just waiting to be brought so we could get our fix. After a little mishap of deciding I would take a bath in the middle of the night and catching my self be for I made the plunge and ripping my waders, Duane and I made it up to the cable, I made it for about 2 more hours with my waders full of water. I did talk to a buddy after wards that had caught a nice 23 inch Brown. OK day three, after working with my wife all day getting things ready for a Garage sale this next weekend at the house and yes it will be Saturday all day and there will some fly fishing stuff out of the shop there enough for the ad. I got a phone call from Duane asking if we were going to make it down I said yes let me check. I bribed my wife with Mexican food down at the Landing she was all in, all we had to do was find a baby sitter. Hello grandparents do you want to spoil our children tonight while we fish they couldn't say no to that. We got down to the water at about 10:30 and fished until 2 it was awsome started the night on the north bank and when the south bank cleared out we made our way over again fishing white and olive sculpins. My wife and 12 fish I was proud of her because she does not get to go as often as I do. I also told her that was good practice before we went on the big trip. Well this brings me to night 4 we started out at around 8:30 and it was hot for some and not so hot for others. About 11 I got asked how many fish I Had I responded with the number 3 yes I only 3 fish I explained to Duane I asked him how many you have he said 16. He then went on to tell me I was not stripping fast enough I told him I was burning it in. He asked what flies I had on. I told him I only had one waited black sculpin on. Thats the problem put a non-weighted one on I don't have any. Well to make a long story short he gave me one and then it was on. I was the come back kid. We did have one thing happen at about midnight we both hooked a fish almost at the same time. He said I have a good fish I responded well fight him fare. Then my fish made a nice little run and I thought to myself my fish is nice too. Well to sum it up I netted my fish then netted Duane's fish both fish were identical both were 21" Browns. We quit fishing around 1 when we got to the parking lot my dad was sitting on the back of the truck with Matt I asked him how they did and Dad proceeded to tell what they were doing and since I do not have enough time in this century to replay what he said I will just sum it up for you. White bunny leech, dead drifting basically not moving it all and they both combined to have over 60 fish. Duane and myself were casting an unweighted black sculpin and trailing with a weighted black sculpin were burning it back to us and combined to have right at 50 fish. Sometime it just des not matter if it is on it will be good no mater waht you cast at them. As you can see the night fishing has been good I have been seeing a lot of nice fish being caught and for the most part it does not matter what you through at them in the past week at night I have caught fish on big hoppers and mice during the full moon, Muddlers when they would start to midge. Mohair leeches and pine squirrel sculpins in black and olive. It was great week of fishing. here is a pic of the 2 browns that we both caught last night. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Greg Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Great report Michael. Makes me want to schedule that night guide trip with you that my wife purchased for me several months ago. Maybe I'll stop in this week and do that. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
duckydoty Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 There has been a lot of good fishing in the last 96 hours. I think I fished close to 70 of them. Seen lots of good fish caught and talked to quite a few people that have been catching nice fish. Last night was the first time I've had to burn it in that quick in order to get a bite at night. I usually only fish that way during the day with streamers. I ended up with 50 fish after working the rebar to the big hole last night and Mat ended up with 54.
