vanven Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Although an avid night fisherman at Taney I never can seem to get over the 2am to 4am hump. Thats about where I start to get crampy and tired. If you had to choose between late evening and early morning, morning would probably win out. Generation levels are a lot more predictable in the morning in most cases. There are a lot of nights you cant step foot in the water til after midnight because of generation. D is one of the people to ask, he is either crazy or one heck of a trooper when it comes to late, late nights on Taney. -Jerod
brownieman Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 For myself, I can't speak from Taney, just have fished it a couple of times but the bulk of my largest trout have always come right at daybreak or a bit before...few big ones at night...very few of an evening. I used to just try to be the first one to the water...if it took walking half an hour in the dark I was always fishing undisturbed water. The smaller streams...first guy there will generally get a look at the big one if he is on the feed. bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><

timsfly Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Fishing was pretty good this morning about 5a.m. first fish was about 18" and a lot of the fish I caught this morning were over 16" saw a lot of nice 20"+ browns around and a few nice rainbows, caugth most of mine on a ginger #12 woolybugger with just a smidgon of crystal flash in the tail. The rain from 7-9 or there abouts really kept the crowd down. Greg Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Troutchaser Speaking from my experiences on Taney - most of my biggest fish have come right at dusk. I've caught a fair # 20" or better in this timeframe over the years. I'm just getting into the night fishing thing but from conversations with Michael (BCO)and one trip with him I've learned that the fish tend to bite well at dusk and then sometimes they "turn off" for several hours. Then it picks back up later in the night. When I'm fishing in the evening I'll sometimes stay over and do a little night fishing and I've occasionally done well - but generally not. I think that's because the best bite is later. Personally though I've had better luck and bigger fish at dusk than early AM/daybreak.
