am4mu Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 General question, my eyes are not as good as they used to be. Is there such a thing as a good knot tying tool or fixture on the market? And if so where can I find it? I'm looking for something to use while on the water. Thanks, Doug Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
timsfly Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 If your eyes are the only problem, get your self a pair of flip focals, they run about 17.00 and are great, when I turned 40, I stopped fighting the eyesight thing and just started wearing them, they really help, I've been selling them for about 30 years, and for the money they are hard to beat. It fits right on your ball cap, I'll put a pic on in a little while. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
am4mu Posted September 9, 2007 Author Posted September 9, 2007 Thanks Tim, I use reading glasses, opti visors and a bright light at home. At work(I supervise a blow mold shop)I use bi-focals and in a pinch opti visors. Not much problem in my office but out in the shop in low light conditions it becomes a problem. Danoinark Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Doug are you about having trouble tieing the fly on or just all general knots? There is a neat technique for using hemostats to tie a clinch know that is quick and it can almost be done by feel. I have a picture of it but not on this computer. I can post it after I get back to the office on Tuesday. But generally you thread the tag end through the hook eye. Make a loop pinched between thumb and forefinger, take the hemostats and put it in the loop, turn the loop with the hemo's seven times, reach and grab the tag end with the open hemo's and pull the tag end back through. Pull the fly with your other hand to secure the knot. Clip the tag. Takes just seconds to tie the clinch with this method. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
