Leonard Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 fishing was GREAT... lots of good fish.. I got to the parking lot were I was going to meet up with Don.. Instead I met Flatlander... so we joined forces and searched for Don.. we found him and head to the guanlet and big hole... I found a few fish (3 browns was in the mix) with the PMS drifting on the south bank just up from the big hole... Flatlander fished just below me at the big picking up a few .. and Don above me also picking up a few... If im not mistaken they were using pine squirrels (unweighted) and just drifting them also.. we then went to the flat between 1 and 2... fishing was good there too.. All 3 of us caught fish there... I made a few "new" sculpin patterns that I tried there.. hooked a couple of time but no solid hook ups... which is fine.. I see it like this.. they hit it because it was what they wanted or it irritated them and they struck at it... either way.. I'll be working this pattern over the next few weeks in different areas to see what it can do. As we were starting to really get into some fish.... the horn blows.... 1 unit.. well Don had had enough and was headed home... Flatlander and I stayed to fish a glow in the dark indicator with midges and scuds well we had a slow start but he found a couple fish.. like this sweet 18-19in brown caught on a midge... (YES... A midge at night!!) http://www.taneycomonights.com
Don Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Hey Flatlander, Nice Fish. It was a pleasure meeting you last night. Thanks for the flies Leonard. I had a good time fishing with you guys. I fished from 7:10-11:10 with a few breaks in between. My second cast yielded a 15 in brown from an olive bunny leech that had to be the most colorful fish I caught this year. I finished with only 11 last night, all stocker size bows from either a black or olive pine squirrel. It seemed easy to pick up a few immediately after arriving at a hole then things would slow down until I relocated. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Members Flatlander Posted October 7, 2007 Members Posted October 7, 2007 Don, Nice meeting you also. It was good to have you and Leonard as fishing partners for the night. Hope to fish with you again on my next trip. (whenever that may be.) Darrell Flatlander You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.
Members Flatlander Posted October 7, 2007 Members Posted October 7, 2007 Leonard, I'm glad we were able to get together to fish this week. Thanks also for the introduction to Don. I thought I knew how to night fish and had some good fortune on previous trips to Taneycomo. But, you never realize how little you know till someone shows you the better way. Leonard (Taneycomonights.com)showed me the better way to night fish on Taneycomo. I got into so many fish over my three night and four day trip that I lost count. Most of the fish were caught at night -- using Leonard's sage advise, PMS and pine squirrels. On Friday night I was doing so well that other fisherman around me started to come up and ask what I was using and how I was using it. One guy had traveled 300 miles to night fish on Taneycomo and had fished for four hours without one fish to show for it. He had something close to a pine squirrel in his fly box and gave it a try and within about two minutes he was netting his first fish of the night. In the next hour he had netted an even dozen. I suggested to Mr. 300 miles that if he was going to travel that kind of distance to do something he had never done before, he should invest in the guide services of someone like Leonard at Taneycomonights.com to make the trip more enjoyable. Catching a brown on a midge at night was sure a blast. The bugger didn't want to be landed. Leonard, I'm sure glad you had a camera with you. I'll get this printed for the office. I know it's not a Trophy brown, but it is the biggest one I've landed so far. Thanks! Tight lines Flatlander You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
