I have often wondered what would be left. The dam is old and doesn't generate much, but on the other hand the pool of BS is adequate to absorb any failure, I would think?

How far would the trout water extend? Would predator fish from BS decimate the trout population?

What do you think?

It's a thought...

How far would trout water extend? The minimum flow would have to increase for sure if PS would be taken out. If not, in summer months, during low flows, water would warm up quickly even in our area.

Preditor fish - walleye would have a field day on trout but there's no difference than this scenario and Beaver Tailwater where they have striper and walleye.

The real question is what would it do to resorts and marinas... private docks and such. It would change the whole make-up of the river. Branson Landing would be screaming bloody murder- all the money they are sinking in the fountain and boardwalk... it wouldn't be a board walk- it would be 100 feet off the water instead.

In reality- it will never happen. Branson Landing would have too much to lose and they are the power brokers on the lake now.

This has prompted another thought...

While driving across Table Rock Dam I wondered:

If they use the new flood gates at Table Rock,

what gets washed away?

The hatchery?

Seems like it'd wash away alot of those buildings & such.

Love to see an aerial photo.

Does anybody know the scenario?????

I do... I do!!

What we were told eons ago was (when they were just talking about doing the project) that highway 65 bridge would be under 50-60 feet of water BEFORE the new flood gates would be opened. That means everything you see below the dam now would be gone- so no worries about taking anything out at that point, except the earthen dam itself, which the new gates are designed to save.

Waste of money???? Definately.

I thought they had an option to raise the pool, but opted to sacrifice Branson rather than inconvience the people living on the lake. Aren't the new gates to keep the dam from being topped? I wouldn't think the present gates could flood that bad unless BS had backed up over Powersite?

50 feet over 65 bridge would be probably 70 to 100 feet high? Don't know how high the bridge is over the water.

I agree with the waste of money. There was a drawing somewhere from the Corp. that showed what would happen if the new dam had to open. The water would come down and put the hatchery under several feet of water as the flow moved down to join what would be coming through the big dam. From what was shown on the drawing it was supposed to save Branson from water cresting the big dam and flowing un checked. The next time I am down at the hatchery I am going to ask if they have any info on this.

The hatchery will not- Dewey Short Visitor's Center is where you want to ask for info- above the dam on Table Rock. Best bet is to email Little Rock Corp- that's where they will ultimately send you.
