I was hoping someone could give a little advice on night fishing at Taneycomo. I have been fishing Taney for many years but have only twice tried night fishing. I think I caught 2 rainbows the first time I tried it and none the second time. Maybe someone would be so nice as to give a couple tips. I do know some of the basic fly patterns that are successful, zonkers, mohair or marabou leeches, wooley's, etc. I have heard mentioned on here PMS and electric blue boogaloo, although I have to admit I have never heard of either outside of this forum. What I am wondering is, what are some holes you would recommend a night fishing beginner try? What are your favorite night flies and how do you fish them? Any tips would be appreciated. I will probably come out on Thursday and possibly Saturday night. Thanks everyone.

I would be happy to help you out on Thursday night. I'll bring the flies that work best for me and show you how to fish them at some of my favorite holes. It would be nice to start just before dark and I can only fish till 11 or 12 depending on how the fish are biting.

That sounds great. That is very nice of you. So should I just PM you to arrange a meeting time? It gets dark around seven? I get off work at 5:30, so I can just drive down and get a bite on the way. I can't stay late either, I remembered as soon as I submit my post that I have a meeting on Friday morning, but it's not until 10:00, so as long as I'm not out too late I should be fine. Thanks so much.

It looks like they have been cranking some water about 4:00 PM then off about 6:00PM. I think that is just to keep the water temp down and stable, 2 hours is'nt generating much power.

I'll bet there are several of the Stipper Club members who will be more than willing to help you. You must have really twisted Duckydoty's arm to talk him into going night fishing...:lol::lol:

But watch out... He knows where the Squid hangs out... Just be sure you can outrun him... Ducky... not the squid....

Also... be prepared... you WILL be hooked on slow stripping at night...

I just got back from a short trip out tonight. I think the water went on about 4 p.m. and they shut it off at 6 p.m. Took a long time to drop tonight. Still was not all the way down by 9 p.m. The bite was a little slow for me to night--only one to hand <_< Did get quite a few LDR's and short strikes. Used dark colored mohair leeches. Saw quite a few big fish staging at the base of the ladder while it was still daylight out. A fella from the hatchery was down there looking at them also. He informed me that none have made it all the way up yet, and he thinks they will really have to crank 4 generators hard to get the lake level high enough to allow the fish to climb the ladder. A bunch of little ones were trying.

Thanks, again duckydoty. I was going to call tonight, but I had to work late, actually just now getting home. I don't want to bother you this late. I will try calling tomorrow around 5:30 when I get off work. If I can't reach you I will just start yelling your screen name when I get down there, just kidding :P
