loo10 Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 On Saturday, October 6th, my son and I had been out on Taneycomo night fishing. We were coming off the water about 9pm. We came down past Short Creek and saw a strange light up ahead. It turned out to be a gigging boat. We said hello and asked if they were doing any good and they replied they'd just gotten started. I dont believe I've seen a gigging boat on Taneycomo before. Although with the numbers of suckers - it oughta be a good spot. My questions: Who was it? Did you end up doing any good? Would you allow me to go along sometime? Sounds like a blast!! I explained to my son that suckers were very good to eat and he was just amazed. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 16, 2007 Root Admin Posted October 16, 2007 Bill Bird from Springfield keeps his boat here in the fall for just one thing- sucker gigging. They go out at dusk or after and usually get their limit which I think is 25 suckers. They can't go above Fall Creek but find plenty below. It is fun and they usually eat them the night of, sometimes they cook them on our pavilion with potatoes. Makes a long night though.
loo10 Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Id really like to tag along on one of these trips. I promise to help clean my share and eat my share if it can ever be arranged. All night sucker fish fry.....BRILLIANT! Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach
Members Wildside88 Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Lilly, I believe that the limit for suckers taken by gig is 20 per man. I have never gigged Taneycomo, but have gigged several of the rivers in the ozarks, it is a blast. Great to get a group of boats together and have a big fry afterwards. I have not went yet this year but, will try and get out once it cools off.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 2, 2007 Root Admin Posted November 2, 2007 I think it's 25. Can't gig above Fall Creek on Taney. But there's plenty of suckers below.
