woodman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Any you guys remember the hydro races of the 60's. They used to race arround the Swope Park Lagoon. Wood boat races at the Pom. and the Ozarks. I am tring to get some interested in building the little 8' Minimost. They are easy to build and I'll even offer my shop that we can work in. My 30'x60' barn (cabinet shop) near Oakgrove. Build this winter to hit the local lakes next summer. Those boats are a hoot. http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
WebFreeman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Uh-oh. Another boat building thread to get us dreaming. That would be fun. How fast does that do w/ an 18 on it? It looks fast. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Flysmallie Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Uh-oh. Another boat building thread to get us dreaming. I feel that was directed at me. I already have a new winter boat project. It's the canoe that I was going to have done by now. Still not even close. But I'm close to starting on it again, maybe even this weekend. Woodman I would love to see some of your work some time.
WebFreeman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Ronnie, I've been dreaming about it for years. I just haven't gotten off my duff and done anything about it. I hope you finish yours. It might motivate me to do mine. These look pretty cool. I think they still race something like this at Rockaway beach in the summer, though I don't think they are homemade. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
woodman Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 My boat is in my avatar, just click on my photobucket to see all the pic. and some video. That Minimost on the post is not mine but I suspect it will do 30+ mph, maby 35-40,don't know. I built one and they are easy. The Hydros they race ,some are home made. woodman Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Any one here of the KC. Boat Club that used to have races here in the 60's. I posted a thread on Hydroracer.net and got some feed-back from some racers in their 60's that used to race here. Interesting stories about Swope Park. http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
