Center Punch Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 fished burbouse sunday where boone creek dumps in and downstream from there my first time fishing there(went with a buddy) I tied an articulated sex dungeon in yellow and i never had to change the fly. We didnt fish too long as none of us felt very well. Fished for maybe an hour and half and i ended up with 7 quality smallmouth ranging from about 12-15 inches. all fought good and they were really after the sex dungeon-will have to get after them again as its always fun on the fly rod. also caught a few baby largemouths and sun fish but i believe this area is pretty loaded with smmouth right now www.troutchapters.com >>>---------->(x) Jared
jjtroutbum Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Hay Jared how about a write up on the pattern you were using. I would hate to have to GOOGLE it. Would be afraid of the "bugs" my computer might get trying to find it (pun intended)... Gavin Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 http://flyfisherman.com/ftb/kgtrigger/index5.html Basically two buggers wired together with a deer hair head. Cheers.
The Caddis Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Try Charlie's Fly box for the pattern. Step by step instruction, I think it has 55 steps, so it is not a quick tie.
Kayser Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Do you mean the Bourbeuse River that runs past Gerald, between Mill Rock and the Champion City access? I have a cabin towards Mill Rock, and hooked about a 16-18" smallie in late Sept on a big shiner. Yeah, its not fly-fishing, but I really don't like to leave dinner to chance while I'm up there. (I don't keep smallies, just spots, catfish and panfish.) Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
creek wader Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Sounds like a good time. I've been wanting to fish the Bourbeuse River, for quite sometime. It'd be a bit of a drive for me. Any more info on the river, including places closer to Jefferson City, would be appreciated. P.S. I'd be on foot, at least till spring. So I'd be more interested in wade fishing water. Catch and release. wader
Center Punch Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 jjtroutbum- gavins link sums up the pattern and its just yellow instead of black and as caddis said, charlies fly box should have the step by step there kayser, and creek wader to be honest im not sure as im not used to the area. i was up with a buddy, wet dreams. maybe he will chime in and help you out. all i know is it was near spring bluff www.troutchapters.com >>>---------->(x) Jared
Kayser Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 CP- Looked on a map, and its the same river. You probably took 185 out of Beaufort through Spring Bluff and down to AC, and then fished where AC crosses Boone Creek. Creek wader- I think it's mostly private access to the river, except at the MARKED access points, like Mill Rock, Champion City and Wenkel Ford. I would definitely recommend a canoe, unless the river is rollin, when you should just stay on the bank and try for catfish. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
creek wader Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Thanks for the info. I'll bring my kayak down next spring then. It's put up for the winter. Right now, I'm limited to just wade fishing. I may check a few spots further upstream where the water should be shallower. Thanks again. ... Wader wader
Gavin Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 The BB can be good at times..Havent floated out of Mill Rock in a couple years, but the smallie fishing was fairly decent. Had to drag a quite a bit though. You guys catch any spotted bass? Not many smallmouth below Goodes Mill these days and it was 60/40 spots/smallmouth on an 8mile float from a friends place down to Rieker this year.
