Members Morgan F. Posted October 24, 2007 Members Posted October 24, 2007 Everybody is probably in the woods, but thought I would see if anyone has been seeing any action. I hunted Thursday -Sunday and saw good movement...nothing big. Got busted drawing on a turkey on Sat. morning. Went out Monday evening with the weather change. I thought I would catch it just right and see some great stuff. I didn't see a thing!! The only excitement of the evening was right before I got off stand in the last bit of light...had an owl swoop up on a branch in the tree next to me w/ its dinner and started chowing down...pretty impressive! So who has the monster buck stories? Morgan F.
vonreed Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I haven't seen a whole lot of action. 2 weekends ago I seen a descent 9 point in pursuit of a doe, I could of shot it but the place I was hunting doesn't want anything under 130" shot so I painfully let it proceed on with the chase. That was in North Missouri. Then about a week ago here in south missouri I let a nice 8 pointer by because half it's rack was broke off. Also got busted by 2 huge huge gobblers. I was sitting in my stand, in 3D camoflauge, moitionless with a tree at my back, 15 feet up the tree looking straight ahead. And then I got busted by the gobblers. They're truely unbeleivable with their eyesight. I've only gotten 1 button buck so far this year.
TroutBum4wt Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I've been out once so far during the warm weather, and I'm just now recovering from all the chigger bites. Didn't see any deer, just feeding sign. I'll be out this weekend for a muzzleloader/managment hunt near Branson. Good hunting and be safe!!!! "Where There Are Trout, There's Hope" - John Gierach
Seth Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I was hunting down at Peck Ranch in Shannon/Carter county last weekend on a managed bow hunt and didn't see squat. The deer have been moving around a lot more lately since the cool spell hit. I'm going to start hunting hard starting next week since it sounds like the bucks are starting to chase. Hopefully Mr. Big will come strolling past me and let me deflate him.
Members Morgan F. Posted October 25, 2007 Author Members Posted October 25, 2007 Hunted a new spot last night for a couple of hours until dark. Not sure if it was the different spot or the change in weather, but I saw a lot more action last night...perhaps the full moon had them moving as well. Now I just need ANOTHER stand for this spot! Also saw some small bucks trailing some does, but nothing to speak of...it's coming on! Good luck, Morgan F.
TroutBum4wt Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I was out first light today for the mananaged deer hunt in Taney Co. with my muzzleloader. Didn't even see a tail flash or anything that resembled a deer. It become a little warm later in the morning, and I'm sure they bedded for the day. I'll be out tommorow morning. timsfly Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Nice 7 point taken up here close to the shop thursday (bow), saw a nice 8 point on the way to work this morning 4:30 a.m., near the shop, some lucky youngster got a 9 point today just outside the park, youth hunters are doing well down here, I heard there were several more shot this morning, near the park. Everybody stay safe out there. Starting to see a lot of rubs and a few scrapes the past few days. Don Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Tim, How could you tell that 8 pointer was on his way to work? I saw a 6-8 pointer in the middle of the road by the house today. I've only been to the stand once this year. The stand was downwind from my location so I drove to the downwind side of the stand. While driving, I saw 2 does and a buck crossing the road. I only spent 2-3 hours in the stand and saw nothing. I'll have better views after more leaves fall. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Seth Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Since Monday of this week, the scrapes and rubs have appeared everywhere almost over night. Everytime I got through the woods, there's a bunch more rubs and scrapes in all of the places except for one that we hunt. I haven't checked the one spot out yet. I'm taking some days off work next week to do some all day bow hunting. Hopefully a shooter walks close enough to give me a shot.
Members Morgan F. Posted November 2, 2007 Author Members Posted November 2, 2007 Got out for the evening hunt last night...2 does chased by a fair 8 point...got the 'ol blood pumping!! Crossed at about 25 yards in the EXACT wrong spot! How do they know??!! On the drive to work this morning (about 30 miles) I saw 3 small to medium bucks...all running does...deer were everywhere and moving through the open. The next few weeks should be a great time to be on stand...good luck to all! Morgan F.
