My wife's step-brother lives in Southeastern KY and went hunting Saturday morning. The stitching on the strap holding his stand came apart and he fell with the stand. Fortunately his brother was hunting with him, he called 911 and they air lifted him from a field, to a hospital in Lexington. He had to have heart surgery (not sure of details) on Saturday and back surgery yesterday. He is in intensive care and they may have to perform another surgery on his back, early next week. He and his wife just had a baby in June and this was only the second time he was able to get out and hunt. The stand was purchased last October, but it was left out in the weather.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR STRAPS and consider adding a heavy chain with it!

This is the reason we went to using chains and chain binders. You don't have to worry about the chains giving out on you. Prayers go out to the family and wish them a full recovery.

Sorry to hear about your wife's BIL and our prayers are with him.

Good advice! I check my stand a week or two before archery season (ladder stand - homemade - well built) and take "baby steps" until I'm very confident. This year I found a couple of problems that could have had not so good results if I had waited until an hour before sunrise on opening day to try it out.

Good advice is to check out ALL your equipment a week or two before you head to the woods the first time... and periodically all season.

I've got another ladder stand (store-bought) that I'm planning to move soon. You can bet there will be some updates to it before setting it in its new home...
