Brian Sloss
If anybody is planning to trap this year, I've got the perfect spot for otter trappers. The Eleven Point may just have the mother load. Been seeing very large otters in the Blue ribbon area and I know others have seen them on the rest of the river as well. You could do real well if you came here. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
vonreed
Thanks for the info Brian. I live south of Springfield and Bryant Creek is about as far as I can drive for trapping during a day. I'd love to trap the Eleven Point. I went over there 2 years ago looking at sign and seen lots of otter sign, it was pretty impressive. I can only imagine how many trout they're catching. There's probably already someone trapping the Eleven Point and you just haven't seen them. Otters breed about like rats, it doesn't take long for them to repopulate. Good luck fishing. Quillback
Just out of curiosity - How much do you get for an otter pelt?

Brian Sloss
There are a couple of trappers, but they complain that otters are too hard to catch. If you have the secret, I'll buy you a dinner and you can camp at my campground. Come on over and give it a try Vonreed. They need to be thinned. I heard they were getting around $100/pelt a few years ago. Am I wrong? www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
vonreed
Otters are very hard to catch. They are one of the hardest animals to keep in a trap. However, if you have the proper equipment and a little knowledge on how to use it, they are a pretty simple animal to catch. Buy yourself a trapping liscense and spend a little on some traps and you'll pay for them within the year easily. The otters were bringing over $100 2 years ago but the Dahli Lama in China or Tibet said that a certain species of otter should not be bought because it was endangered. Soo all of the people who was buying them quit. It had nothing to do with our River Otters, it was on a completely different continent with the otters but they quit buying completely. Soo the otter market crashed. Which isn't all bad to me and some others, but to the fishermen, it's just gonna make more otters because of low prices again, which in my opinion is a descent price considering the only animal worth more here in Missouri would be bobcat. They sure are a neat animal, I love em. I may take you up on your offer someday, I'd like to trap over there. Your rivers are way more beautiful than ours where I live. Kayser
What does a coyote pelt run? Things are getting pretty thick around here. I think there might be two or three large packs around my house.
