Rusty Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 http://www.usmayors.org/uscm/us_mayor_news...3/mwma_ford.asp Found this to be interesting. Also found out they are putting a huge sign on the top of the stadium that cost $175,000.00. They are saying if they can get just 10 seconds of free shots from tv, then it will pay off. Interesting........
Randall Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 maybe they could have put the money toward... i don't know, r&d, challenge the foriegn cars' economy and longevity... maybe... no, a huge bilboard'll make people want to buy their product, not quality Cute animals taste better.
Members Fox Statler Posted February 5, 2006 Members Posted February 5, 2006 I think that there is a trend in the automotive business from the general public of buying better quality and more efficient vehicles, especially now with the higher gas prices, more expensive insurance, and higher initial cost. This has been a common problem in foreign countries. Why Ford, Chevy, Oldsmobile, and others hasn't seen it or changed to me the demand is puzzling. I am driving my third Nissan truck but I am considering buying a Saturn Vue instead of a Xterra because the Vue used a more efficient Honda V6. Fishin' What They See, Fox Statler
Steve Smith Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Back to the subject, Cabela's will not bring much competition to Bass Pro IMHO. I often travel to Dundee Michigan for business which has a fairly new Cabelas store. I think Cabela's has a somewhat better selection than BPS, but not on price. Their pretty high $... especially on flyfishing goods. As far as a community paying Cabelas to locate, traditionally Cabelas builds in small towns like Dundee, MI. Then all the motels and restruarants build around them since the big box draws the tourist and crowds, which means tax dollars coming in the pot. Dundee had maybe two places to eat and no motels. They now have three new motels, and a bunch of franchise eateries all within walking distance of the Cabelas store. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I think many of you are overlooking the fact that from Hazelwoods standpoint, there are few businesses that can draw from a wide area like a Cabela's. The taxes used to pay back bonds will be paid in large part by people who live outside the city. If you look at the original retail store in Nebraska, you'll see a small town that draws money from the interstate, money that they couldn't even dream of without Cabela's. Business taxes are paid by individuals, and one of the best uses is to enrich those individuals locally. IMO. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
