patfish Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Help! My girlfriend is totally into taking stock photos and needs a new digi camera. She burned her old camera out, she does a lot of i-stock stuff. Anyone have a favorite for this type of photography. I'm under the gun with Christmas coming up. Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks.
Members Chuck Gardner Posted November 29, 2007 Members Posted November 29, 2007 The wise move would be to ask her what she wants...
patfish Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Did that, but I can't give up too much or she'll be on to me. I know she keeps looking at the digi rebel xti 10.1 MP. She's threatening to buy it herself. I have found some fairly decent deals but I think I may go with Amazon, strictly on rep and warranty. Any thoughts? Presahdit Chuck, but she is female. knowwhatImean?
ecce38 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Here's my 2 cents. Check out this video clip on the Pentax K10 for under $1000. patfish Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 I just said screw it and asked her what she wanted, thanks y'all.
flyfishmaster Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Pat, Here is my 2½ cents worth. I'm not a camera guy at all and I don't have a lot of money but I do know if you want a camera and GREAT service you have to go to Creve Coeur Camera. Their Pre-sales and after sales service is untouchable. Everyone in their stores are experts in the field. I paid about $30 more for a camera in their store, but the service is well worth it. Heck they gave me a loaner camera to try out first before I purchased one. They even have free training classes. I have purchased a camera from the box stores as well, but the over the phote support is not go. What ever you do, she will love it. FYI: Just don't get her a vacuum, I'm still paying for that mistake. Merry Xmas, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!

Presahdit Chuck, but she is female. knowwhatImean? The Xti is a good camera. I own a 8 MP 20D and bought a 400D (Xti) for the office. If she gets serious over the long haul the investment in lenses will be much greater than cost of the body. The "kit" lenses are OK but not a really match for the clarity of the Canon "L" series. I picked Canon over Nikon -- despite being a longtime Nikon user -- because I felt the Canon sensor technology (CMOS vs CCD) and lenses were better. If she is selling stock photos as a registered business and making any money at it she would be better off tax-wise if she bought it (with your generous investment in her business). But OTHO trying to write off what is more or less a hobby you try to make a buck from is something the IRS frowns on. As for sources, I by most of my stuff on-line from B&H photo in NY. It's not always the cheapest source, but it has a good reputation and return policy.
tippet7 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 FYI: Just don't get her a vacuum, I'm still paying for that mistake. Merry Xmas, FFM Mine actually told me last night that she WANTS a vacuum for Christmas this year. I said there is no way I am getting suckered into that. I get her a vacuum and I would never hear the end of it!! You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members Growler Posted November 30, 2007 Members Posted November 30, 2007 patfish, I'm curious, you asked what she wanted...what did she say? By the way, I just got engaged to my girlfriend...well, not exactly, but I DID buy her own fly rod & waders. G
patfish Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 Growler, yeah, last year for Christmas I got her a Kitchen-Aid mixer (which got me 20 pounds) and for her birthday some new breatheable waders. So, I guess we're "engaged". I'm a total romantic as you can tell. She said she would like the Canon Digi Rebel XTi 10.1 MP. She's not a pro, but takes some great shots and makes a little side money selling them on i-Stock so, whatever keeps her happy, that's what she's getting.
