There are a few of both, the better smallmouth and largemouth(mostly smallies) is in Shoal creek. Capps dumps into shoal just down from the last bridge about 2 miles below the Mill.

Caught both at the junction of Capps and Shoal, caught some nice smallmouth in the hole just up and the one just down from the second bridge, fishing for trout but hey, they will hit a trout jig as well.

I have caught both in there. They do seem to be rather finicky though. Years ago, before they drained the mill pond, there was 3 or 4 in the 3lb+ range largemouth hanging around the mill inlet. I haven't seen them since the pond refilled.

I'm not sure what the rate of these species are per mile of creek but, it seems to me to be much less than that of comparable creeks in the area.

I'll have to agree with the chief on this one. I have caught an 18" largemouth out of there before, but it was sooooooo lathargic it didn't give up a very good fight IMO. I have seen a couple of smallies caught out of there, but that has been in a 8-10 year span. I just don't see them in there very often.

It's funny Ollie, but I have caught many more bass and of larger size in Hickory Creek which is very comparable in length and temp. of water.

There just seems to be something about Capp's that bass and other species don't like. The upper ends of fishable water of creeks such as Center, Jones, Jenkins, Indian, Big Sugar, Flat, Turnback and many more support many species such as perch, google eye and the like, that you just don't find in Capp's in the same numbers. Capp's should be just stuffed full of the Long Ear Sunfish, aka, punkin seed. It has the favored habitat of shallow, flowing, gravel bottom, and ample food source. But I have never caught much less seen one.

BTW, did you get my PM the other day?

Hey ollie, I saw your mystery fish yesterday. It was a very nice rainbow. I'm guessing at least 16 in. It was right up against the far bank by the briar bush. It came up like it took something off the surface and I saw it's back. I couldn't get it to take anything I had. I'd say that it is a pretty smart big fish.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Well at least you know it's still there. Next time I have something else to throw at him. So you better get him first. LOL
