Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 3, 2007 Root Admin Posted December 3, 2007 The problem with replacing the treads is that they are bolted and not nailed or screwed. Never noticed until I got on my hands and knees and looked. Removing them is going to easier than installing the new treads. There's also talk about replacing the 2 rocks at the bottom with something more stable... concrete? Problem there is washing.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 9, 2007 Root Admin Posted December 9, 2007 Leonard- sorry I didn't make it- had to work the office. What did you guys decide?
Leonard Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Well let me start by thanking Mike, Sandy (from Harrison Ark) and Rodney for coming and helping with the measurement and assistance.. The stairs stats: 20 foot in lenth... the bottom runners are 2x12.. posts are 4x4 (6 posts) 6 2x4 side board 20 foot 2 2x6 rail (the top) 3 foot 2in wide 16 steps... there are 2 boards at the top step/ all step are 2x10 32 brackets holding the steps the cable at the bottom (guessing 3/4in about 15 long) the are 2 cable clamps.. nuts and Bolts (still figure those out) (NOTE: the only thing we didnt measurewas the height up to the hand rails) we decide to leave the lenth the same. but we are going to widen it to 3' 6" (4in)... if possible*** next with the extra inches (width) I think it would be a good idea to add a center board under the step. post (we talked about this).. I think putting in 6x6 post would make for sturder stairs. I still think all the brackets, nuts, bolts ect. need to be replaced completely.. some are rusted.. others are shot.. some could possibly be reused.. (we can decide that when we have them apart) The railroad tie at the top needs taken out and replaced it is starting to get rot spots on it... didnt spend much time looking at that.. notice it after we did everything else.. at the bottom.. I think concreting a set of step is a good idea.. but building the frame/ setting the concrete/ and getting it to dry. on top of moving the rocks out. The idea came out to have a platform off the bottom of the steps. Then concrete in a 3 sided set of steps. (measurements are still being out!) Down side. we would have to set the frame.. hope no water runs and get the concrete in quickly.. but we may need to add calcuim to the mix to help it withstand the water that will be on it.. (I hope I said that right!!) I think a list of volunteers needs to be started... (who/ what they can bring as for as tools) there has been a few guys come and say they could help... but I think we are looking at a weeks worth of work to be done it 2 days.. Leonard.. I have more details Tuesday night... If anyone thinks they can draw a blue print (or a to-scale print).. up for this.. you are welcome to call me and we can work out plans (417-779-8061)... http://www.taneycomonights.com
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 When are you looking at putting this into motion? Depending on the date If I can, I sure will be there. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
