Danoinark Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I concur with John B. Midges are effective year around on the tailwaters. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
timsfly Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Midges nearly everyday here at Roaring River, and the small black cadddis are hatching off everyday right now, and they will most of the winter, I have been catching a lot of fish on Beetles and ants all fall and this winter. I fish a lot more streamers in the winter and glo-balls. Those trout on the tailwaters and on springcreeks can't seem to get enough eggs. Don Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 So, John, are you telling us that there are midge hatches throughout the year on the local tailwaters? I can't speak for sure about other tailwaters, but Taney can provide a hatch 365 days a year. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Brian Wise Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Technically I would take a stab and say that there is a least "some" midge activity on all of our trout waters during the winter....could be wrong though. Probably not as thick as the tailwaters but still there. As far as layering, Remington is making a Under Armour type of base layer that is at Wallyworld. I do have to say that it isn't Under Armour quality but it is real good stuff. AND they run for something like $15 for the shirt and $15 for the pants. Brian My Youtube Channel
Greg Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Brian - do you know what walmart is calling their base layer clothing? I haven't seen it. But I'm in the market for something. brittsnbirds Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 If you have a Kohl's close by they had their polypro stuff for 12.50 ea.
Brian Wise Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Greg, It is called RemTech Performance Apparel. Like I said it is made by Remington. I know they have them at the Wallyworld in Mtn Home. They are going fast, and I mean fast. I needed a Medium and had to wait about a month until they stocked more. Looks like a trip to Mtn Home is in order for you....then "maybe" fish the White since you are so close. Brian My Youtube Channel
Don Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Brian, Are those the black polyester ones with the green Remington stitching on them? Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Greg Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Thanks for the info Brian. I'll look a little closer around here and if not Mountain Home is a good option. I'll look at our local Kohl's too. I need something warmer. My standard cotton thermals are not cutting it. I've heard polypropylene is the way to go.
