Members riverman Posted December 7, 2007 Members Posted December 7, 2007 We were able to make the trip last night to Noel and was it ever worth the two hour drive. We got on the water just after six and by eight we were back at the truck with 60-70 fish. The river was in the best condition I've seen in two or three years. I don't know the name of the holes on the Elk. The one just above town where the river runs next to the highway stacked full of the biggest smallies I think I have ever seen. By the way no bass were injured by our gigs last night. Riverman
Al Agnew Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Well geez, riverman, glad you didn't stick any smallies, but I hope none of the lowlifes who WOULD gig them are reading this!
Members 24KGold Posted December 10, 2007 Members Posted December 10, 2007 Riverman, sounds like you had a great trip. I'm in NW Arkansas and fish the creeks and rivers here for smallies but have always wanted to try the Elk, especially this time of year when the bead slingers aren't on the river. The problem is, I don't know where to put in, where to take out, how long the floats are etc. Where do I get that information? I have my own canoe but would probably need a shuttle. Are shuttle services even available after the first of the year in the winter? Thanks for your help. Terry
Members riverman Posted December 10, 2007 Author Members Posted December 10, 2007 Terry, I'm afraid I can't be much help to you. I only get to the Elk Two or three times a year and then it's only to gig. We always put in at Noel and go up. I think most of the outfitters are closed this time of year. I would love to pull the lights off my boat and put on the trolling motor and give it a try some time. Right now I would just like to be able to walk to my boat without busting my butt on the ice. Members 24KGold Posted December 12, 2007 Members Posted December 12, 2007 Hey Wacky, Thanks. After Christmas is over, I'll call you. This is my busiest time of year so I can't come now but I'm going stir crazy and need to get out. I've not really fished much on the local rivers during the winter and I want to expand my fishing options besides trout fishing. Thanks again. Terry
