Interesting article. My last day down last week I switched from outlet 2 to outlet 3 where I was doing great. The fish were midging just under the tree limbs up from the ladder. I caught deposited a fly or two in the trees trying to get a good drift. Even though my orvis 9' tls got me there a few times with the wing and the ineptness of the angler the fish won most battles. I thought that a longer rod might enable me to get up farther or enable a longer drift. Caught several fish down just below the cable on a dry caddis but not as much as many as up stream. I had it all to myself though and did some experminting with new patterns.

On my way home I stopped at Bass pro catalog store and they had three or four wally marshall 12' crappie rods that are set up much like a fly rod and are rated for 4# to 12# line. They were only $15. I rationalized that if they didn't work for fly fishing I could use one for the spring shallow water ceappie spawn at either Mark Twain or LOZ. It is two piece and has lots of whip in the tip but for $15 how could I go wrong. with two grandsons I don't have much problem getting rid of an extra rod. Might even work at night for long casts or easing throught the outlets.

And with a cork grip they could call it a 'Salmon' rod and get $400 for it.;o) They work fine once you figure out the line it wants---been using one for years.

That is an interesting article by Zach. I could acually see it being applicable to Taney when the water is up and flowing.

If you havent checked out his website I highly reccomend it. It is beautifully done and there is a lot of interesting information. The forums tend to be a bit less regional than this site and can provide for some interesting reads.
