Members Steve Dally Posted December 27, 2007 Members Posted December 27, 2007 Like the Chotas myself. and my Simms L2 are nice. I have one caution on the STL Plus. My next pair is going to be the plain STL. I wore down the felt in about 6 months of wading (remember Im probably on my feet a lot more than most) leaving the rubber standing higher. Very very skatey. I don't need the studs that often, and prefer to get longer wear out of the felt. Michael Interested in teh Didymo comments?? can you fill us in more? Micheal Kyle Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I have not done that much research on it I am going on what they told me. I do know this if I have read this right if you let it dry it dies. So maybe if the the river dries up which is not good for the fish or us fisherman the didymo will be gone. flyfshn Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 My parents gave me a pair of Simms L2 for xmas and they were very narrow, so I returned them for a pair of Chota STL Plus. Wore them this weekend.....fished for 6 1/2 hours and they are as comfortable as my Columbia hiking boots!! Thanks for the recomendation guys! Fish On! Members Robert Posted March 27, 2008 Members Posted March 27, 2008 CHOTA STL. Mine are four years old and still going strong. Be prepared if you go fishing in warmer water(60F) to wear lighter socks.
brittsnbirds Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I did not pay any attention to this post when it started until my last outing. Last year my cheap-o wading shoes fell apart down at BSSP. I went to the BSSP store and bought a pair of Hodgeman that were on sale. They wore well with no problems. They were naturally more comfortable than the cheap-o's. When I was down at BSSP over spring break the felt soles on the new ones separated. I spoke with the sales staff at the store about the separation. They advised that there was a 30 day warranty, I needed to call Hodgeman to find out if they had a warranty. I was in the need of boots right then so I thought long and hard about what type of glue would work on "wet" materials. Then it hit me, Gorilla glue. In fact they encourage you to wet both surfaces prior to applying adhesive. I picked up a small bottle and applied the glue with a stick and put a big log on top of the shoe. Next morning it looked like my shoe grew a fungas as there was foam oozing out all around the sole and felt. No problem, I just picked the foam off, trimmed the rest with my knife and viola I was back in business. Moral of the story. I don't recommend Hodgeman boots as they do not have a sewn felt sole. And if you need to repair your soles try Gorilla glue. By the way, are the Chota's that good and are the soles sewn on? I looked on line and read mixed reviews. Some people loved them and some hated them. Pat
Members King Fish Posted March 28, 2008 Members Posted March 28, 2008 I've got the Chota STL wading boots.. I really like them.. very light weight and dry out fast.. have another fishing buddy that switched to them from simms and also like them.. I feel it was a very good investment to be comfortable.. was a up-grade from what I had.. good luck.. PK
