Nikon D40x For Xmas

I have a gift cert to dicks sporting goods and I have been thinking about getting a digital camera. I am a rookie interested in taking outdoor shots, so any opinions about the Nikon 10 mega D40X w 18 to 55 mm lens for 800 bucks, or the canon powershot S51S 8 megapixel for around 450 bucks. Any insight would be appreciated if you have one of these cameras.

The Nikon is a little overpriced at $800, I would suggest the Canon S5 IS for the entry level digital camera, its loaded with features and takes a great pic without the learning curve of a full blown SLR. Great lens, zoom, custom pic features. If you want to get into photography and need the capability of interchangeable lenses, flashes, filters and other accessories, I would recommend the Pentax K100D digital SLR. I have seen them as low as $450.

Are you sure you want to spend that money on a camera when you could buy your brother something really nice instead. Like a new pistol, say a cz 75 sp-01! You could actually buy me two of them!! I'd be a dual threat!! Think about it!! haw haw haw.

I'm thinkin' thats a long drive in foul weather just to catch a fish. And it is my B-day on Monday. Would rather go ice fishin' up in Spirit Lake at Okoboji and party MBO with some Iowa heifers. How bout dat?
