flyfshn Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Anyone use one to weigh fish? If so, what do you use....Boga, Knock off or something else? Fish On! hfdhoosier Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Ive been looking at the Boga knockoffs at Bass Pro and Cabelas but most of the reviews state they can be off by more than a pound. I was looking for an easier way to release the fish during catch and release, so the scale is not worth the extra money to me for the Boga. I lose alot of small flies by breaking them off while trying to get the hook out. will be interested in following this post to see what others suggest. Danoinark Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Tim at Roaring River sells a nice net that has a built in scale at his shop. Very nice concept. I have seen his and some of his customers nets. Tim you might tell them about it. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Steve Smith Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Yep. I bought a weighing net from Tim's Fly Shop a couple of years ago and wouldn't be without it. These particular nets are made in New Zealand, and as near as I can tell, are very accurate. As far as I know, Tim is the only shop that carries them. Never saw them anywhere else including the Internet. Tim carries two sizes that he special orders, and I bought the bigger one so I can use it in the boat too. I believe it weighs up to 30 pounds and the smaller one up to 15. They are not cheap, but very well made. Scale pops out of the handle, so very easy to use. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Dutch Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I use the Boga Grip and it does a nice job for me. It is a little pricey but I shouldn't ever have to buy another set of scales.
Trav Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I have one that is sold by Rapala. Weighs up to 30#. Cost me around $20 so not so expensive. I did replace the hook that came with it. I took an old stringer clip and modified it for easier handling of the fish. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
