Have a new underwater cam and was wandering if anyone can give me any advice on what pixil selections I should use.

I do alot of internet/emailing of pics and was also wondering if I can change pixil size of pics after I have put them on the puter.

If so HOW do I do it?

Plus, I would appreciate any pointers from anyone on dos/donts of photography.

Haha, to tell the truth, I am more of a point and shoot with auto settings type of guy.

Get Adobe Photoshop cs2. You can reduce the size and resolution of any image but always save-as and keep the original in case you want to use it large. You can't upsize. I'd take pics as big as you can, then reduce for the web.

Trav,

My wife uses CS2 like Lilley said above. It is a HUGE program adn a bit hard to really 'use' because of it's size. She is really, really good with it after a couple of years of using it but I am still totally lost. (And I am fairly computer literate) On top of that the program is several hundred dollars. Don't get me wrong when you figure out how to use it it is an amazing program.

Here is one example of literally thousands of things you can do in it.

When I shoot photos I use Picassa for post processing. It is quick and easy and you can export your photo what ever size you want really easy too. It is a Google powered program and after you download it you can use a really cool feature to host your photos online right in the program....did I mention it is free?

Here is a link:

Picasa

About the pixels, set your camera to the highest quality it will shoot. This will take the best photo the camera can, and then you can re-size in which ever program you end up with. Basically you want the available pixels so you have that much more to work with when processing.

I ended up with a Program called Uload. Incidently was the program that came along with the camera. Its been doing what I want to do so far, but keep in mind that I dont do much other than converting file sizes and cropping.

Sounds like there are some pretty phenomenal programs out there but I am afraid they might be a bit of an overkill no more than I need for capability.

Thanks for the info. If I have anymore questions I will definately "shoot" them your way.

My comment might qualify this thread for "geeks anonymous" but here goes anyway:

For those of you looking for photo editing but do not want to drop money for photoshop, there are a couple of fantastic options if you are comfortable running Linux on your computer.

Specifically, the Gnu Image Manipulation Program is free and is nearly equal to anything photoshop has to offer. It does have as steep of a learning curve as photoshop, and just as many features.

To be honest, the free Picassa download from Google works for most of the digital touch up/manipulation/color fixes needed for the average person, but there are good free alternatives for the tech savvy.
