Paola Cat Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Uni knot to uni knot splice. Been using it for years. Works good for me. Currently using furled leaders with loops. Don't have to mess with the knots in my advanced age and poor eyesight. Tie the tippet directly to the small end leader loop. PC Cheers. PC
trout fanatic Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 For a mono to mono connection I use a double surgeon w/lotsa spit. Mono to Floro, triple surgeion w/lotsa spit. Kwik easy tie and no issues, at least for me
flyfshn Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 flyfishmaster, is that the same tool that flyfishinggolfer uses? brittsnbirds and others, I always wet my line also before pulling tight...not sure why they were breading. Maybe I had a bad leader. Thanks for the help guys. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Danoinark Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Its hard to beat a loop to loop connection from leader to tippet. Tie perfection loop in the leader tag end and a perfection loop in the tippet. Connect them loop to loop. Sure makes it easier to change out tippet quickly too. I never have a failure with this connection. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...
Paola Cat Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Dano ... I agree, that's a good one too. PC Cheers. PC
brittsnbirds Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 What about those little metal rings that come with some braided leaders? You can also buy them by themselves. I tried them last year on the end of my leader to tippet. Made changing the tippets very quick. Used an improved clinch knot on the leader to ring. I quit using them because I learned the surgeons knot.
flyfishmaster Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 flyfshn, Most of the knot tools give you the same results, but here is the product I have been using for over 10 years the Cinch Tie (see site below). I think Bass Pro and Cabelas carries them for around $10. I own 3 of them: One in the trout vest, one in the bluegill vest and one in the car. http://cinchtie.com/Cinch_tie_knot_tyer.htm I can normally tie a leader to tippet in about 30 seconds or less. As a backup the hemostats work to, but this product is easier to handle and use. Dano... I too have used the loop to loop connection for larger flies. I would think for smaller flies and nymphing the extra size of the loops would cause a drifting issue with the current pushing the loops faster then the fly, creating an un-natural drift. What are your thoughts? FFM aka: Kim Woo Hoo Fish On!!
brittsnbirds Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 ffm- I have one and love it for attaching fly to leader. What knot are you using this tool on for leader to tippet? I don't remember seeing instructions for that one.
Luke Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I sometimes use the little rings that brittsnbirds was talking about. They make it real easy to add a dropper. I bought mine from J. Stockard, just search for Mini Tippet Rings. --Luke
