Members Krash7172
Great forum! A group from KC has recently included me in their annual trip to Lilley's. I've been to Taneycomo before but I learned how to use a fly rod earlier this year. I've been reading the forum for about a month and picked up a bunch of good information. I'll likely be in a boat with them on Fri and Sat but I plan to drive up to the dam before leaving on Sunday the 20th. I don't own waders and I'm not planning to set any records but I have to give it a try. If any of you plan to fish that day, I'd be grateful if you could show me how it's done. I don't even have to fish
duckydoty
Welcome to the forum. Hope you have a good time at Lilley's. Dont eat any of his smoked chicken! You wont be able to stop once you start Fishing below the dam should be pretty good if you use sowbugs and midges. Work the bank below outlet 2 down to outlet 3. I love to sight fish for individual fish in that stretch. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Members Krash7172
Thanks for the warm welcome! I've stayed at Lilley's before. Thumbs up. I've fished MO waters since I was a child. I currently spend most of my fishing time with a kayak and my fly rod catching bluegill, crappie, largemouth and channel cat. I usually strip clousers and wooley buggers. I tie most of them myself. Looking to learn more!
Members Krash7172
Looks like we might be arriving early enough on Thurs to get a couple hours in before sunset. I'd like to survey the area before attempting any night fishing. I've only been up to the dam once before and it was several years ago. We'll probably fish after sunset from Lilley's dock while waiting for the rest of our gang to arrive. I've read a bunch about night fishing at the dam but what about below fall creek? duckydoty
I dont think there is many places to wade below Fall Creek to night fish the way we normally think of night fishing here. I wouldn't want to do it from a boat either without knowing the water real good. There is alot of chunk mixed in there that might get you in a little trouble. I might be convinced to get out for a little while Thursday evening if there is no water running. Fish till maybe 11'ish? flyfshn
Welcome Krash7172! If you are planning on wading at all, I would suggest you stop by Cabellas and buy a pair of neoprene waders (less expensive), if you don't already own a pair. You can rent a pair down there, but by the time you use/pay for them for 1 or 2 days, you could own a pair for a few bucks more. Duckydoty and the others on this forum will teach you a ton....but just understand that it is an addiction! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. duckydoty
It's not an addiction! I can quit any time I want too, really I can. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Thom
Duckydoty is quite correct. You can quit anytime. I know I have quit four times since september this year and plan to quit again after my next scheduled trip in March. Thom Harvengt
Members Krash7172
I don't plan to wade on Thurs eve. When I said "from Lilley's dock" I meant ON Lilley's dock I'll be catching up with guys arriving that I haven't seen in a while and I'm sure we'll have plenty of our own "special coffee". Probably wise to stick to the safety of the dock. I'm curious how to fish at night with spinning gear ON the dock. Never had luck with powerbait at night. I'm going to try to get up to the dam a couple of hrs before sunset with my fly rod. I may stay a little after dark if I can figure out what I'm doing. I hope to get out either Fri or Sat night for a bit. I planned on buying waders at some time. Might as well do it now. I know the addiction well. My first experience with a fly rod was when I was on vacation in March. I was scuba diving in southern Belize. The area is known for fly fishing but that's not why we were there. After several days of listening to the fishermen in the resort I had to give it a try. I wisely had a guide take me out for a couple of hours to learn how to cast before trying the real deal. We were just catching small snappers on the reef but I was having a blast. I signed up for a half day for bonefish on the salt flats the last day we were there. It's sight fishing and I couldn't cast far enough to target the fish but it was still an amazing experience. Some one was flat lining mullet (bait fish - not hair style) and they were catching fish but it didn't matter. A month or so later I had my own fly rod fishing my local waters for the crappie spawn. By mid summer I was tieing my own flies. This will be my first opportunity for trout.
Members tclubbs2
Krash, Are you coming down with some guys from Belton? I too am going to be at Lilly's next week. Half the group from KC and the other half from St. Louis. It seems every year we have new people show up in our group. If you are with us welcome. If not, look forward to meeting you guys on the dock.
