tippet7 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Got to the water at 815 to only 1 car in the lot! Tied on an olive experimental fly I tied last night and hit the water. For the next 20 casts I caught a fish on EVERY cast. And then it slowed down some. Total fish caught on the new fly was 28 in about 40 mins. The fish ranged from 10 inches to the largest at 21.5 all 'bows, very colorful and very fiesty fish. After that fly was destroyed, I tied on another new fly, but in a tan color with only 5 fish caught in about 10 mins using the fly. Then I tied on a zebra midge and caught another 6 fish before calling it quits, but not before landing a 19 incher that I would swear was a cutthroat!! Then these 4 idiots showed up. I didnt have my camera on me, but they were in a circle dunking their rods. They should have made it easier for themselves and just put a net in the water You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Danoinark Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Great report Jon....now that picture as they say is worth a thousand words describing shuttlin'. That is a classic photo and one well worth saving. Good job bud.... Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
jdmidwest Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Looks like the pivot man showed up late to the circle jerk. I assume this is a common practice on Taney. I know they outlawed it in Ark. Danoinark Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I assume this is a common practice on Taney. Yep, daily.... I am now wondering if the person with the back to the camera is a guide??? Sure looks like he might be giving a few instructions. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
jdmidwest Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I am sure it takes talent to shuffle in a current and dunk a jig without losing touch with reality, might overload their little brains without a little guidance. The one on the left looks like John Candy, has he been reincarnated as a shuffler? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
tippet7 Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 If I remember correctly, there were 2 of those guys using spinning gear. It was kind of incredible to me that they were so blantant and non chalant about shuffling. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members jrbhc8 Posted January 14, 2008 Members Posted January 14, 2008 Centerpunch and I have a few pictures like that taken on our cameras. Seems like every trip I make it down to Taney, there is always someone doing the Taney shuffle. Always a group of 3-4 guys. jrbhc8 www.troutchapters.com jrbhc8 ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ | <°)))>< | <°)))>< | | ¿ >°)))><
Members OzarkKid07 Posted January 14, 2008 Members Posted January 14, 2008 I don't know Jackdiddly about trout fishing, so I have no idea what you guys are saying those guys did, nor do I understand why it's bad. COuld you clue a bass fisherman in? Thanks. Michael J. Mooney IV Center Director Brain Balance of Edwardsville "Ohhh, you thought we were on vacation!? Sorry honey, this is a FISHING TRIP! Danoinark Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Nobody has jumped in yet kid, and since I am such an opponent to "shufflin" then here is my .02 worth. Now remember its not illegal, but I look at it as somewhat unsportsman like, and to me borders on an ethical issue. Now please please boys and girls, don't give me the ratatat about how each person has his own way of fishing and if it ain't illegal then why demonstrate against it, so far and so forth, yada yada yada... Kid, its when typically you just shuffle your feet stirring up all the good things on the bottom and under rocks that trout like to feast on. It makes for easy pickin's with your flys, bugs and lures. Sometimes a co conspirator will get upstream of you doing his kickin' and jivin' making it even more productive. I for one also feel that it does damage to the strata. Others will not agree in that they feel just walking on the stream bed does damage and shufflin' is no worse than boat motors stirring things up. I disagree in that you can walk the stream stealthly without kicking up stuff and leaving the lake just about like you entered it. I told myself never to get in this discussion again....oh well! RiverRunner Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 You don't have to shuffle for the fish to come up to your feet. In the area that I frequently wade, JFK Park on the Little Red River, I can stand completely still and fish will swim up and stay about 1 foot downstream of my boots, waiting for anything that I might kick up so that they can have an easy meal. Of course, shuffling is illegal in Arkansas (its not in MO). But lots of things are "illegal" in Arkansas, but I doubt you would see any tickets written for it. I can't figure out why anyone would want to catch fish like that.
