Fishing has been good all weekend at the park, the water was clear and looked great fri, and sat., but this morning the water was muddy and dark, during the night it clouded up, this happens sometimes after heavy rains in the area, and we sure had heavy rains this past week, so the water is nasty, but the trout didn't seem to care, I still had people come in and tell me they were catching trout on dry flies, caddis and cracklebacks seemed the most popular, but I had a few people tell me they were catching fish on midges.

I talked to a few people that were doing well on small tungsten headed nymphs, fishing two of them at a time, the one fellow I saw that was doing the best was fishing a black #16 zebra midge with a #16 red zebra midge as his trailing fly, he was catching several fish, he had two #4 shot on and was fishing the faster water, the fish were hooking themselves most of the time.

I did best today on woolybuggers, black, olive and brown. I also caught my best fish today on a glo-ball, orange/egg combo, tied on a jig hook.

Here are a few pics and a video of the small dam built down by dry hollow.

Tim

Have you been able to find out what the purpose of the dam might be?

Thanks

Dam's are usually built to hold back water. :goodjob:

Sorry Dano, I couldn't resist. I don't know what it's for, but I want to fish it!!!

Yeh I guess that is the best answer, to deepen that pool, and slow the water up to control erosion.

This little dam should make that pool twice as deep when the water is low and it should really help when there is high water, the bank on the far side was starting to show some real signs of erosion, so this should help with this also, the conservation dept. has cut a lot of big trees down to this winter, trying to keep them from falling on campers and cars.

Leave it to Ronnie to come up with a logical answer. He's been around Beeson too long. I didn't do worth a darn Saturday. Yesterday [sunday] was another story. Caught fish until we got bored. After Tim's report, wish I had thrown a dry. White and green weighted leeches did well. Best for me was Oregon cheese egg patterns in size 14. Largest fish was a bow - five pounds even. Nice beautiful fish.

The last day to fish C&R at roaring river is the 11th of febuary, and then we will just have to wait till march 1st, or fish taney and all the other nice water we have here in the ozarks.

Dano; it was more like Cheeze Whizz color to me or maybe that string cheese stuff that sticks to you teeth like peanut butter. Nope... usually, we don't have a get together on the last day. Only the C&R opener. Opening day of catch and keep is too wild to even think about breakfast on the river. Considering March 1st will be on a Saturday, I wouldn't go near any of the four parks in Missouri. I'll probably drop by late in the day after all the embedded hooks get pulled out of people.

Steve, I meant the LAST day of C and R on the 11th. I think I plan on going that day.

Sorry Dano; I get easily confused. I don't know if we'll be able to fish the last Monday or not. It depends on how work goes. I will definitely fish the last weekend if you can get free. I haven't fished much in the fly only zone except when the upper end is too crowded this year. There is a few nice fish below, but the horses are all in the upper end from the highway F bridge upstream. That is just my opinion though and Tim should chime in on this one. Let me know if and when you can make it, and we'll throw in some extra dogs or something.
