Members bobtu Posted January 17, 2008 Members Posted January 17, 2008 I've been doing some research trying to understand how the generation works. My question is, what is the maximum cfs discharge that it would be safe to wade? I've heard opinions about # of generators running, but not in flow. In looking at the different sites, it looks like it varies between 20 cfs to 15000 cfs. Below is the output for today... Would any of this water be wadeable or would it be unsafe? Thanks in advance.
Daddy Carp Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Just glancing at the chart, It looks like if you are standing Thigh deep at the 20cfs generation and it goes to 2600cfs, you are going to get your smokes wet! I am seeing about a 3'rise in "tailwater" level.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 18, 2008 Root Admin Posted January 18, 2008 20 cfs is no generation or power pool. 1300-1500 is ok- can wade alot of the water down from #3 outlet. Anything more is getting alittle high to take chances.
Terry Beeson Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I've been doing some research trying to understand how the generation works. When you find out, write a book and you will become the richest author in the world!!!! #1 Best Seller for YEARS! Second only to the Bible!!! Phil has the best answer to your question, but I want to add something... If I may... I have had a couple of friends meet their maker due to generation changes and not being careful. I've also had a close call or two myself and you will hear countless tales of close calls and disasters from the novice up to guys who have fished the waters for a lifetime. Water levels/flows can change in a heartbeat. And without warning. Just because the water is wadable now does not mean it will be five minutes from now. And it's tough to see the chart from the middle of the stream. What I'm getting at is this... BE CAREFUL out there!!! And while you may think this is redundantly redundant and that you already know about this... I just have to say that you can NEVER say the above enough to those who fish tailwaters... especially those who are new to that type of angling. Well, and to those who are NOT so new. They (I) need to be reminded periodically of how dangerous it can be. Project Healing Waters Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 There are spots along the fringes that can be safe up to about 4000 cfs. But the cfs at those spots is nowhere near 4000 cfs. These are pockets...eddies...out of the faster water. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org
