Just talked to Megan. She said there was a couple of guys taking a boat out at Cooper Public Access this evening and both ended up in the water. One didn't get out. Was an elderly man, long time guest from Lazy Valley.

LV had it's annual fishing tournament today. They may have been in the contest too.

No other details.

Thats too bad.

When my brother and I were little kids we used to see who could swim this lake the longest before our muscles cramped from the cold. If I remember right it never laster much more than 10 minutes.

Makes you wonder when you see adults with children in their boats with no life jackets on. I have stopped several times in the many years I have visited Taney to explain to them that even an adult probally couldn't be rescued if their was current. Many looked at me like I needed to mind my own business. One gentlemen (and I use that term loosely) even told me that when he was a boy they never had life jackets and he can't remember anyone ever drowning. Go figure.

Ignorance is bliss.

Right Terry. Prayers for the family

I was listening to the scanner when the report came in. Said there were 2 in the water. After the 1st on the scene, it said that 1 was on shore, cold, wet & not well. One was still in the Van and the Van was starting to drift deeper. 1st was #1&3 fire responded, Later, Western fire (diver team) was called in. The Lake patrol arrived about 30-45 min later from tablerock. Of course "hind-site" is always 20/20 and Monday morning Quarterback is always easier but: I would think that there would be a Boat, on call 24/7, within 10-15 min of the areas. Training of all depts. who respond. A KIT containing Throwable flotation w/rope, 6,000# tow strap 50' long w/hooks in all emerg. vehicles who respond. Not that often that a tragedy like this happens so most of the equip would, hopefully never be used. The "cost vs. need factor. Just would hate to have to stand on shore & watch an occupied vehicle slowly float away. I wasn't there, could be I would have had to do just that with the rest of them. Just some thoughts & ideas that came to mind!

How sad. Prayers are with the families. Sounds like from the information provided here, that the ramp may have been frozen and the van slipped back into the water????

The gentlemen's body was just found. It sounds like there was ice on the ramp and the van, trailer and boat went in the water. Either the man who drown was in the van when it went in or they both went in to try to save the rig... not sure. The man who drown was 80 years old.

Boat ramp is still closed.

Very possible! This time of year, if you carry a 5qt. pail of cement mix, in your vehicle, it will do amazing things to ice. Only takes a very light dusting on the surface (handful for a 10'track). it will almost make it like dry concrete. Next best is ash from fireplace. These stay on top and do not loose their grip like kitty-litter, salt etc. Best emerg. treatment I've found! Not hard on home drives like salt & cloride chems. either.

Here is a copy from the KY3 news on-line site: ......................

BRANSON, Mo. -- City police say two men were attempting to bring a boat out of Lake Taneycomo around 5:20 p.m. Saturday. Their van and trailer slipped into the water. One man was able to get out of the sinking van and get to safety. He told police he last saw his friend treading water by the van.

Cold temperatures brought the search to an end on Saturday night. A search will resume Sunday. Both men are from the Iowa area.
