Leonard Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 sculpins are a MAJOR part of a big fishes diet... if they were this big... how big would the brown be?? EDIT: what if the sculpins looked like this?? http://www.taneycomonights.com
Aeronikl Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I know I haven't seen as many as you have, but most of the ones I've seen in Taney were only 2-3 in. long. According to the literature I've read, ours can get to 7" long though. That would be a nice snack for a big brown.
Gavin Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Most of the sculpins I see are in the 3-4 inch range, but they do get bigger. Big trout also like big minnows, central stoneroller minnows, shiner minnows (bleeding in most of MO, duskystripes in the White R. drainage), Ozark Minnows, and S. red belly dace. Stonerollers are common almost everywhere and they average around 5-6", shiners usually run around 4" long, ozark minnows and dace are usually around 2-2.5" long. I dont think that trout go for topminnows like the N. Studfish and blackspot top minnow but stream bass certainly like to eat them. Cheers.
motroutbum Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 That is a nice looking lennok. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
