Next year at approximately this time I would like to take my wife on a vacation to snowbird country. Could be from the North Caroilina Outer Banks to Hilton Head, Tybee Island down to Ilslamorada or even back towards Desitn, Florida. Would really like to go to the Hilton Head, Tybee Island area. I realize there is good fishing in all the areas but this trip is for my wife. She wants to stay on the water where ever we go. Does anyone know how to achieve this without having to take out a second on my house. Would love to go now but my company is moving and I have been gorunded through the end of April to get ready for the move. As far as fishing goes Dolphin Docks in Port Aransas Texas looks real good but I'm afraid this would not do much for the wife. One other consideration. She has an aunt and uncle that have been trying to get us to come down in the New Orleans area. I would be intersted in hearing opinions about the oil rig oppurtunies around the Venice area.

Please help folks! My wife would be perfectly content to sit on the beach and read a book, but I would like to capitalize on the oppurtunity to catch saltwater fish. Any ideas would be greatly apprciated.

Thanks,

Doug ;)

This may be almost completely no help  - but I can say that Tybee Island was pretty cool when I was there. It was several years ago and had the wife with me - so I didn't fish, so I can't attest to that (they said they did a lot of redfish and trout there) - but as far as a beach kind of trip it was really laid back. I found that we would get up and walk the beach in the morning and we were usually the only ones there - it was much less crowded than the average FL beach or CA - so that was a nice change of pace. There seemed like lots to do there and things to see - so for what it's worth, if you want less crowds and laid back vibes - Tybee seemed to have it -

You planning on fishing inshores like reds etc - or fishing the wrecks? I heard there was a lot of good wreck fishing along that stretch of shore as well.

Doug you said you were talking this time of year...I would say it would probably be extremely cool in the outer banks in February, if not downright cold. I am not sure it would be conducive to laying out on the beach so to speak. I would think you would have to be extremely south in Florida before you found warmer weather if that is what your wife is after. Even New Orleans, Biloxi, and Gulfport this time of year gets pretty darn cold too. I would also consider talking with some outfitters or guide services concerning the type of fishing that is productive during the month of February.

You are right Dano it would be cold this time of year, will probably push it back to April or May, as long as it is before school is out. Jscheets yes it is wreck fishing that I am looking for. There is a fishing party boat out of Hilton Head called the Captain Stacy that I really like the looks of. It holds 20 - 30people and it fishes the wrecks and does very well but holds the costs down to where I can afford it.

This time of year can be cold as mentioned, the Gulf can be cool the water can drop into the 50's. but the fishing around the oil rigs can be hot!! Capt Troty Wetzel out of Vience will do what it takes to put you on fish. We have used him several times and even for spear fishng trips. I know yu can get into some big Amber jack, I maean big AJs, lots of smaller fish, maybe even red snapper. depends on whats legal and in season. Common trigger fish are pretty darn good eating!!! Lime Green Power bait eggs works pretty well for those. Cobia are in and out.

Here is alink to their site.

Good people and they will work hard for you. We booked three days last trip and spent the night out but it was warmer and we were way to hell ooutin the gulf and some of the guys hooked up with bill fish and one had a monster tuna.

The motels in Vience are scarce so be sure to book them asap.
