Crippled Caddis Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Fished dam1 yesterday caught 10-8""to13" rainbows and 8 tiger muskies 6"-12". Don't wanta be a wet blanket but you were catching Grass Pickeral. They get very active this time of year as the spawning urge hits them. Shoulda picked up a bunch immediately below Dam 3 too. CC Thank's CC,I thought so after reading some of the earlier post on the Spring River.......after I posted.I hope this helps after reading your post on the decline of the river....but I only saw two people at each dam and all were very nice and helpful. The river banks needed a little cleaning but nothing I would'nt expect on such low water[comparing it to my home water the Meremac].Friendly people, beautiful river, and I caught fish.I must have picked the right day.
Terry Beeson Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 The Spring is still one of my favorite streams to fish. I just don't get to fish it like I did when I lived in Mammoth Spring. It's just too rough commute to Springfield from there... Next time you have to move down to Bayou Access and try it out. shawncat Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 Thanks Terry,I'm for sure going back. What do you think is my best bet?Short float and fish for smallies and trout......or jump access to access wading?
jdmidwest Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I always like the float from Dam 3 to Riverside Camp. You can rent a boat there or they will shuttle you back. You can make it a 3 hour float or all day, summertime I usually take a early morning float to fish and float it again later for fun with the rest of the crowd. Most rentals don't launch before 8 am. There are several access points, from the Bayou you can hike a long way up stream to get away and into good fishing. Any of the campgrounds will let you fish for a daily fee. Smallies are better below Riverside or over on the South Fork a little farther over. CC, thanks for the tip on the pickerel, I like to have them on the end of a fly. I did not realize they turned on this time of year because of spawning. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
