Started fishing around 9:00am. Not many people, 1 person to every 2-3 holes nice! Started with a unweighted egg lots of lookers and a few takes should have hooked, operator error. Switched to several different flies, caught a few but nothing seemed to really get them excited. Finally tied on a grey scud and the fun began. Caught fish almost every cast for awhile. When the action slowed we loaded up, ran to Tim's to pick up some jig head egg patterns, went to lower park, wind had picked up some by then. Egg worked well, like previous poster said, fish would streak from a distance and just nail the egg, no hesitation. I didn't catch the big one today but alot of nice fish. Overall great Feb. day fishing, catching, and the weather. Just wish I would have got down more for the c&r season.

Thanks Dano, I really like the vintage FF stuff, as I know you do as well. The rod is my dads Phillipson Royal, it is a little much for RR, but I like to use it there for sentimental reasons. My dad used to take me to RR, hardly ever missed a opener, lol, I don't think I have been to opening day since we quit going. I need to get a guide fixed on the rod, but other than that it is in excellent shape.

Excellent FM...You are making your dad proud. That is the best reason to find and fish the old stuff. There is no better place to relieve memories than on a stream fishing and reflecting.

That's a wonderful rod and matched with the Pflueger you have something that will pass down the legacy. Good for you.

Nice pic meister,

Was at RR on Fri and Sat morn. Friday was much better for me - with the cloud cover it was pretty much fish on every cast for quite awhile - was below the f bridge. Sat wasn't bad - just seemed they were more picky - different areas wanted different things - but caught plenty anyway in the am - (sorry I missed you Leonard) - People started getting pretty thick by noon on Sat so.....

Then spent the afternoon at Crane. What a great place! Only caught a couple of fish and walked for what seemed like miles - over logs etc etc - but it was a beautiful day and a good outing.

right before I left, i remember I had a few BIG (size 2) kiwi muddles, so I put one on and walked around to the water falls.

picked up 3 fish.

hey Js.. Sorry I missed you both days. One of these days!!

Leonard

about an hour after I got from RR, I made a quick run to Taneycomo, catching 3 on the Kiwi.

The big trout were skeered. I started at an upper pool where I picked up some lunkers several weeks ago. The large fish scattered across the pool when I walked within ten feet of them. I saw Leonard catch a few on what was probably the largest fly those trout had seen that day. Captain E, It was good to meet you and was as good to hear that you caught alot of fish. Scheetz, I missed seeing you but I hope to meet and knock out a few trout with you some day.

I finally settled on an area that held about four twenty inchers. They did not seem as spooked as the earlier ones. I repeatedly drifted egg patterns to them and picked up a couple of stocker size fish that scavenged the egg away from the bigguns. Finally, a 20 inch fish took the egg and with two or three shakes of the head it came loose.

I left and found my friend Kevin at the beginning of zone 2. I watched him tie up some foam post emergers that morning and seconds after I met him on the water he casted and landed a nice 19 in bow on that emerger. I threw an olive scud with no success. Several times the wind drifted my scud upstream. I then hit the wading area with intentions of throwing dries. I hat a few hits on some size 26 BWO midges and emergers. Then I tied on a large Amy's ant and quickly picked up 2. The third broke off the only one I had. Man o man, the wind made things tough now and then. I picked up a few more on black barred pine squirrels then called it a day. I only finished with eight fish but I was a satisfied fisherman on my last RR C&R season trip this season.

Were ya fishing that upper pool thats directly in front of the lodge? Those fish have just been hammered all season in those few holes in front of the lodge...myself being one that has casted a time or two to them :) They were very spooky when I was down last weekend. Seemed like the fish that were a lil' further down-stream weren't near as spooky....they were stacked up in that hole below the bridge that splits up Zone 1 and were eager to sip up my San Juan worms...

Glad to hear there was some success at R.R. even with the nasty weather the past couple of days....

Fish at the pool above the falls were very spooky. The bottom of the pool at the falls held some nice fish that I worked on for some time. They were skittish. The pool below the zone 2 bridge is where my friend caught a nice one.
