Line For Jigs

I never thought about where to buy the 3#. After looking online at Cabelas and Bass Pro, I don't see it listed. I do most my fishing at Bennett Spring and Weaver's Tackle and other places there carry it in bulk. I just walk in with my spare spools and they get filled. So I would say check with your local (White River) fly and tackle shops. They should be more inclined to carry it.

The best knot for tying on a jig is the palomar. Here's a website that shows how to tie most knots.

Instead of trying to pass a doubled line thru the eye of a hook, pass the end of your line thru the eye of the hook (a long ways)and then double back with a big loop and pass the end back thru the eye of the hook to give you the doubled line thru the hook. Then you are ready to complete the knot.

3 lb maxima can be purchased at Paul's in St louis

Denny Dennis in Fenton and Gateway in St Charles try to carry it also. They both have Trilene xl 3lb also.

We all finally made the downsize to 2lb from 3lb&4lb for jigs and even lures now after fishing side by side with a 2lb diehard on the pontoon

Vanish gold, mostly in 6 and 8 lb. Wall world has quit selling it in the 250 yard spools. I have had some knots just slip right thru, but thats retied before making a cast. The only other problem I have with any of the flouracarbons is sometimes the break aways away from the lure. Its cost me a couple large browns and several lures.

Its truely invisible to humans when in the water and must be hard for fish to see too as we do pretty good using it better than the monolines maybe its lack of stretch. It does cost more.

I have done extensive research through trial and error with many different lines for jig fishing trout. IMO The absolute best combo you can have is 4 or 6lb. vanish with a 3 foot piece of 5x tippet tied to the jig (1/16 oz or 1/32 oz and on low water days a 1/64 oz) with a palmer or IC knot. FLUORO MUST BE SOPPING WITH SPIT WHEN SINCHED DOWN. It's several times more abrasion res. than mono, it does not cast a shadow effect with the light rays in the water, and it sinks faster, which is nice with the 1/64 oz. jigs. It also has a lower mempry factor which plays big dividens with the lighter jigs.

When you combo it with the tippet material it will out fish straight mono or fluoro 5 to 1.

2lb. trout sos from leland lures. not brittle like flourocarbon, doesn't go bad like maxima, cheaper than either pre-mentioned. Anyone else using it?

Never heard of the Trout SOS, but looks interesting. I may try a spool of it out. I put 4# maxima on one rod, and 4# of the new berkley 100% flurocarbon on the other. If the weather will cooperate, I will post which one i like better one day this week.
